My sister is 20 weeks pregnant she has decided not to find out the sex of her baby until delivery. She is hoping for a boy and would like to name him Jace. My question for you is can Jace be a boy or girl name? Thanks:)

What can I do next?

Jace for a boy.
Jacey for a girl.

What about Josie for a girl?

Hey, Jessica Simpson named her daughter Maxwell, so I guess anything goes.

There are lots of girls named S..
I guess Jace could work for a girl. It's not far off from Jade.

I've known a couple of girls named Elliot and I actually thought it was cute and suited them.

This day and age, Jace isn't the worst thing a girl could be named.

Just my opinion.

Best wishes.

It is a boys name to me. I would not use it for a girl, but I would use Jaycee for a girl like QueenoftheCastle

I know a boy named Jace. No girls...
Technically she can name her daughter anything, but I think Jace is more commonly a boys name.

When I hear Jace - i think short for Jason. So people might confuse him to be a "Jason" or if their hearing is bad - they might think his name is "Chase"

Jason is a Greek name and it means 'healer'. To answer your question - Jace is a boys name in my book.

I don't think this is unisex, at all. Jace is an all boy name, to me.

Jace is a boy's name. Jaycee is a girl's name.

My belief: if you're not sure whether it's a boy or girl name, choose something else.

There is a boy... at my kids' school who is named Jace.
Same spelling.
The boy is nice.
Jace is typically a boy name.

I sure hope she decides on a girl's name too.

It is only a boys name. Isn't that what one of the 16 and pregnant moms named her son?

Well I named my daughter Mikah, so I think it's okay for either. ;)
I love the name Jace. My husbands name is Jason and I call him Jace (I'd spell his Jas though) all the time. My friends sister is named Jaycee, but when pronounced, the emphasis is on the Jay part, not the cee part. JAYcee, not like the initials JC.

I know several women named Chase. Which is almost identical.

Girl/boy

Whitney, Ashley, Carroll, & Kelly were all boys names that have been so feminized that they're not even androgynous any more :)

I know a little girl named Owen, that was weird for the first hour, and after that PERFECT. (Actually, it "sounds" feminine to me now, instead of masculine. Blame it on me being a white chick raised on Asia... "Ko" names are permenantly feminine to me -Michiko, Suziko, etc.) but western names are very fluid.

Frankie,Georgie, Sam, Alex, Mike, Billie, Tom, Danny, Nick, Bobby,...

... Are all Girls names.

Francesca, Georgina, Samantha, Alexandra, Michaela, Willhemenia, Tomasina, Danielle, Nichole, Roberta.

Jaycee is a girl's name if she wants a quick alternative... Or heck, if she LIKES the name Jace for either gender, why not?

If it's just about what to CALL the baby, the girl and boy choices could be totally different Jace and Anna, it really doesn't matter, it isn't like you USE the names together. That being said, if she's trying to personalize things ahead of time, I think she either needs to go with same initials or wait until baby is here... that's the price you pay for waiting :)

Now there are many names that 50 years ago were considered to only be boys' names but are used for girls too. I suggest she can use it for either.

I liked the name Jace for a boy - pronounced one syllable. I believe the meaning is "a combination of the initals J and C" (which are my initials). I personally think Jace sounds fine for both boy and girl. I would never name my daughter "Jacey" (two syllables) as I find that it sounds very juvenile and I can't imagine calling an adult "Jacey" many years in the future. So during roll-call in Kindergarden, the teacher may initially think Jace is going to be a boy, but I think once teacher finds out Jace is a girl, perfectly fine.

It comes from the boy's name Jason (Greek) so I would say as parents these days don't care about the name they afflict on their children-who cares?
