What Brand and Style of Breastpump Do You Have?

Last time I rented from the Hospital, but can't afford to do that this time around. I'm looking to stay in the $150-$200 range and electric is a must. My cousin suggested the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Pump, she loves hers. But the reviews I read on it before posting this question had a lot of negative feedback about the suction. I can't afford a Medela unless I get a single. I don't need a double, it would just be nice. I'm also not planning on pumping all the time, I do want to mostly breastfeed. So what should I stay away from and what should I look into more?

What can I do next?

I used a Medela Pump In Style for almost a year and it was wonderful. Definitely stay away from Evenflo. That pump almost dried up my supply and the Pump In Style saved it.

I have a medela "pump in style".

I got it for about $70 on eBay, lightly used. I used it for one girl, and I am using it with my second, I have never had a problem.

Buying them secondhand technically voids their warranty, but as long as you sanitize all the parts they are perfectly safe to use even if they are already used. I love medela! I am a D cup and the size of the "horns" fit perfectly and as long as I am correctly centered pumping is quick and painless.

If I were to get a pump today I would look for a used Medela Freestyle or InStyle Advanced.

But, how I picked mine was to check all the reviews on Amazon and pick the brand and model that got the best reviews, then find the same one on ebay, used.

Goood Luck

I have the hospital grade Medela, but only because I borrowed it from my sister. Have you looked on craigslist or ebay? You can always get a used pump and buy new parts. You can get new parts at any baby store. I think at Buy Buy Baby they sold a replacement kit for $30. I would also check with the hospital and see if they sell any of their older models.

I have a Medela Pump in Style but I know several people that have used the Ameda Purely Yours and loved it. It's reputation is that it is as good as the Medela and was recommended to me by my lactation consultant as equal to the Medala. You can buy a basic model for less than $200. http://www.amedadirect.com/ameda-purely-yours-breast-pump...

I started with a Medela and hated it. The cups were so uncomfortable. I switched to an Avent double electric model and have loved it (as much as you can love a breast pump!). I'm about to get ready to use it with baby #2. It's currently running $160 on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Philips-AVENT-Electric-Breast-White....

Good luck!

I had a single Medela and I loved it. That thing had some serious suction to it, but it never hurt. But I was a D cup by the time my baby came...not sure if that had anything to do with comfort or not.

I used the ones at the hospital on occassion and those really hurt.

Not sure the cost...got it for a baby shower gift.

You can safely buy a used electric pump. I bought a almost brand new Medela Pump in Style dual electric for $150. The urban legends about used breasts pumps are perpetuated by the corporations that will make more money off of you if you buy a brand new unit rather than buy a used unit for less than half full price.
