edited: do you total all the inches you have lost or just go by the inches in your most trouble some spot?

an aquaintaince told everyone she lost 9 inches but then i heard later she lost 1 inch in her chest, 4 in her waist, 2 in her thighs, and two in her arms. for a total of 9 I would have said she lost 4 inches because her waist is the targeted area.

I don't worry about measuring it.
I go by how loose my clothes are getting (and some are really hanging loose right now).
Another 20 or so lbs and I'll have to get smaller underwear again (I'm down 55 lbs since Dec 1st).

You can do it any way you want... but the most typical is to add it all up. What I've seen on the diet I did was measure waist, hips, both thighs, and both arms.

For example:

Waist 27 to 24 (3 inches lost)
Hips 38 to 35 (3 inches lost)
R Thigh 19 to 17 (2 inches lost)
L Thigh 19 to 17 (2 inches lost)
R Arm 11 to 8 (3 inches lost)
L Arm 11 to 8 (3 inches lost)

That equals 16 inches lost

I'm not an expert, but I think its generally three measurements; bust, waist, hips. Yes you total the three when talking about inches lost.

I had gotten VERY heavy many years ago (pre marriage and kiddos).

Then, I began to take better care through diet, exercise (aerobics AND lifting...lots of lifting).

I noticed in a short time that my clothes were getting loose...but the scale did not seem to budge.

I started charting my measurements...but strictly for me. I knew the weight (or rather the FLAB) was coming off...even though the scale was not reflecting it.

I watched my clothes get bigger...I took measurements from time to time...and I let go of the scale (except maybe once every 2 weeks or so).

I never had to share 'how' much I was loosing...once I got going, it was evident to ALL I was headed in a good direction.

The specific # of inches was for 'me' to keep more specific track. And as long as it remained a downward trend...the numbers for any of it really meant little

good luck
