Weight Loss - York,PA

I work full time so when I get home I really hate to run off to the gym. I generally have my daughter by myself so I would need something that would hold her attention too. We live on a road that does not have sidewalks and there are a lot of blind hills so it is not real safe for a 5 year old. I really want to lose weight and feel better about myself. I need to make myself feel better so I can make some personal changes!

I lost 30 +pounds last year, went from around 200 to 168( weighed in at the doc yesterday) I did most of this pregnant so it would have been much more. I lost it all by doing DVD workouts in my living room 30 to 45 min a day. 7 days a week.

I have a collection now of like 15 different workouts everything from aerobics to kickboxing to yoga to weights, Pilates etc......just join Netflix and have some sent to you, and buy some that you find on sale.

I have just begun zumba and already feel a difference, my partner even said my stomach looked super tight. Im doing it more for muscle tone and a weight loss but its alot of fun. I think your 5 year old would like it because it entails fun aerobic dancing that even she could do, its very easy and fun.

I had a knee injury and had to give up exercise until it was corrected. So I focused on diet alone and still lost weight. exercise is a great tool for weight loss, but at the end of the day, its the calories in vs. the calories out.

Go to Walmart and buy Jillian Michael's burn fat boost metabolism DVD. It's a 45 minute workout and it only costs $10. You can also get her 30 day shred DVD and it's only a 20 minute workout. You can't go wrong with Jillian.

If you want to lose weight you need to diet. I've lost 10lbs in 10 weeks with calorie counting. My hubby (who has more to lose) has lost 30lbs. We use myfitnesspal.com to count our calories, its free & awesome. My original goal was 5lbs, but its been so easy I decided to keep going.
You exercise to improve your health & fitness level. I highly recommend Fit Deck. Its a deck of cards, each card has an exercise on it. My 4 year old loves it (we bought the kid & adult version - they are basically the same, the kid one just has fewer reps & funny names for the exercises). He often asks me to exercise with him!

As corny as it sounds - work out DVDs are great.
My kids actually do them with me and when they lose interest, I can see them in the playroom from my work out area.

It is so important for kids to see mom & dad doing things for themselves. I think subconsiously it shows them that you value yourself and they should, too.

DVDs - no shortage - i like P90X, but gals on this site have had great Zumba recommendations and the Brazilian Butt Lift and even the Firm.
If you don't want to buy just yet, hit the library. They often have different work out videos - and craig's list. You may even be able to borrow from a friend or co-worker who lost their interest (how I got my DVDS - a friend got pregnant and gave them to me to use!).

Best of luck!

Ruuning off to the gym is actually great right after work. You get all the frustration of the day out. It gives you time to decompress. I go to an evening Zumba class at eh YMCA that is overflowing with working women. The kids play together and love it. Mine beg to go.

A couple of quick and easy pick me ups that work for me. Melatonin at night to get good rest. B-complex vitamins for energy during the day. I take one inthe morning and again in the afternoon for that pick me up and to get through the work out. Give up processed carbs. I decided to strictly limit my carbs to vegetables, some fruit, and beans. That instantly cut out all the junk. No sodas, nothing out of a box. And OWOW! Day 1 I felt instantly better. So much more energized and light. No more sluggishness and afternoon drowsiness. Limiting carbs left me with no choice but to skip the drive through and start eating healthy natural whole foods. My calorie count naturally came way down, as well. I'm not losing fast like the whole Atkins thing, because I'm still eating healthy carbs. But over 2 months, I've dropped 11 lbs. They came off slow and I feel they will stay off.

I really think the key is to find ways to be active every day and to try to make it fun. Some suggestions....
-Go to the gym a few times a week and take your daughter to the daycare there. You NEED some time to yourself and she probably will enjoy playing with friends and toys at the daycare. I really enjoy the classes at our rec center. Zumba, Yoga, Hip Hop and Pilates classes are all enjoyable for me. Yoga is very relaxing and yet burns calories, strengthens and tones.
-Go bike riding. Get a bike rack for your car if needed. See if there are nearby bike paths or just go around the neighborhood. You can attach a bike trailer to your bike (I just bought one for $100 off Amazon. com) and pull her in it, or she can ride next to you on her own bike. Check out classified ads for deals on a bike.
-Go on a walk to the park or drive to the park if needed and walk there. I often will walk the track at our local park while the kids play on the playground - the track is small and just circles the playground so I can see them the whole time. Or play with her at the park, that burns calories too.
-Swimming- we go once a week as a family. It is fun and burns a few calories
-At-home workouts (I love Turbo Jam, Rodney Yee Yoga, anything Ellen Barrett). Netflix has a lot of fitness dvds. You do not necessarily need to go to a gym, but carve out some time for yourself and make it sacred.

Set yourself up at home (and your 5 yr old can do it with you! My 3yr does!)

If you go to www.collagevideo.com, you can search all kinds of fitness DVDs and instructors to find what you like.
I've been working out at home for 10 yrs, and as a result, have accumulated an entire gym full of equipment.
I'm one of those pepole that won't go to a gym. If I can roll downstairs in my grubby sweats, and then back up to my couch when I'm done, I'm out!

I prefer Cathe Friedrich and Billy Blanks. I like weights and kick boxing.

I'm not in your situation but I try to get anything in where I can. How about getting a Wii Fit or Xbox Kinect so you can play together? Take walks-I live near Harrisburg and walk along the river (we have to drive there first) or other places like all the wonderful state parks PA has that have tons of trails to walk/jog.
