I'm not sure if this is supposed to be Just For Fun or what...I'm new...second question so bear with me..

My son (who is a baseball player and 27) called me over the weekend gagging...I said "what's wrong?!?!?" he said - "well, I remember you telling me growing up to wash behind my ears - I didn't think much of it - until today."

In a question tone - I said "OKAY?"

he said - well, I wash my hair and just let the soap run off thinking I'm getting my ears clean"

Yes? Go on.

Well, I just took my sunglasses off and put the ear portion in my mouth...and gagged...you are right! I need to clean behind my ears!!"

I'm laughing hard now...as I still wash behind my ears when I take a shower...I think with hair products, sweat and everything else - it gets nasty behind there!!...so my question is:

Do you make your kids wash behind their ears?

What can I do next?

You know, I must have ears that stick out just enough and I think my son has them as well, cause I've never made an issue of cleaning there agressively. And I just stuck my glasses in my mouth and they don't taste bad. I guess I have run-off shaped ears and stuff doesn't collect? Never noticed ear icky on my son :)

The other day I was cuddling my dd, and looked at her ear. The spot at the top where it curls over had a ton of gunk in it! I had never thought to clean there! Ears are weird.

Ewww... I am crazy about keeping ears clean, and the under/behind the neck, lots of kids miss there as well. I still remember a kid in 2nd grade who had nasty ears. It's always been a pet peeve of mine. I inspect my kids every morning to make sure they aren't' disgusting. I once had to hold a friend's baby who was so gross and slimy and crusty, I almost passed out and threw up as soon as I got home. We are talking days of dried spit up in her neck and arm folds. This same friend whined about how her mil complained she didn't wash her kid enough... well duh!

Well, I still bathe my 5 year old, so I wash his. I tell my 14 and 16 year old to do it for years, so I sure hope they do...

I love that you asked this question.

I think our soap has anti-behind-the-ear properties, as it never seems as if my children are clean behind the ears, regardless of my efforts.

Am I doing it wrong?!

That is funny. My daughter is 5 and I make sure either I wash behind them or I watch her do it. I tease her about potatos growing back there like my mom and grandma did. Now my step children is a different story. My step daughter (12yo) was here for 6 weeks this summer and her dad and I got on her case about washing. She had dirt and blackheads in her ears, I didn't want to know what was behind them. I left that to her father.

No, when I am washing their hair I wash in the ears, behind the ears, etc...and I feel they are clean without actually making them take a rag soap it up, and rub vigorously behind the ears.

Your post is awesome and made me laugh this morning. I just was telling my hubby the other night that I always forget to focus on washing behind the ears with my two girls. When I got a good look the other day I was horrified! They were crying because I had to scrub so hard to get the "gunk" off. Now I wash there everytime :)
