We have had a Maytag Centennial for a while and we like it. I like it more than the GE dryer that we got via home warranty.
What brand washing machine do you have? Pros/Cons?
My dryer (GE) has been going strong for 8 years, but is almost ready to die (needs pulley-more to repair then replace).
I need a high capacity, top loader. And just a standard dryer.
I have had a GE, had it about a year (transmission went bad) replaced it with a another POC Fisher and Paykel (after 4 years and numerous repairs, Lowes will no longer service this and will be sending me a refund!!!! ) Yippee but what to buy now?
We have had a Maytag Centennial for a while and we like it. I like it more than the GE dryer that we got via home warranty.
Another one happy with the Maytag Centennial top loader (ETA: ours has an agitator) and dryer. Energy efficient and works well. Knock on wood, we've had it about four years now and no problems.
Never heard of Fisher and Paykel?
We have a Kenmore. Been very happy with it. We are 8 years into its use and it still runs just fine. I've had to replace one part (the part was about $75, and I paid a guy about $75 to come out and show me how to install it myself-flat service call.... he would have come back to do it, and charged for actual "service" but it was easy enough, and he showed me what to do. The minute the part arrived, I installed it and we were back running laundry.)
It is a front loader, HE machine.
Kenmore is (or at least this model was) made by Whirlpool. The washer we had before this one was a Whirlpool. My husband bought it when he was single, and we ran it for at least 15 years before the agitator broke and needed replacing. We just replaced the whole thing so I could now wash comforters, quilts, and sleeping bags without having to take them out to a laundry mat (no agitator).
I have a GE top load washer and an Amana dryer. I have had them for a little over a year and no repairs yet.
The washer doesn't wash as well as my other washer did. It agitates differently. It seems to be more gentle. It has sm/med/large/extra lg/super capacity settings. I try not to load it according to the owners manual because I think it doesn't was as well. I hand wash a lot of my daughters clothes and then toss them in the was because she gets so dirty and the clothes does not come clean.
The dryer is fine.
We did not purchase matching brands because if the dryer was on sale the washer was over priced. If the washers were low, the dryers were outrageous. I didn't care, they were going inside a laundry room and no one has noticed yet. I also don't care if they do.
We have the Maytag Centennial top loader. It's not as good as a washer with an agitator - the HE's just don't seem to get the clothes as clean - but it's better than the front loading washers. We have the matching dryer, basic no bells & whistles - it does what a dryer is supposed to do.
I have a high end Samsung High Capacity with steam options and I LOVE this duo. Mine is a front loader which ic not what you are looking for. However, I am sold on the Samsung. I paid about $2700 for my set a year ago and have had no issues whatsoever. I'd buy the same duo again with the pedestals in a heartbeat.
My Samsung replaced a 10 yr old Maytag front load set. I was not as thrilled with the Maytag.
I would never buy anything Maytag or GE Profile again. I had more problems with those products than anything else.
I have high end KitchenAid in my kitchen and LOVE those products as well.
Good luck!
We just replaced a 30 year old Whirlpool washer. We kept the dryer, as it still works.
After looking at all the common brands (GE, Whirpool, Maytag, Kenmore, LG) and seeing so many are love/hate reviews with little in-between, I was really discouraged. Plus, I don't need or want the computerized features so many washers have. The more fancy stuff, the more there is to break and the more expensive it is to fix.
I was checking into all the stores in town taking notes on their models and pricing, then coming home to look at reviews. A friend told me about a non-chain local appliance store. I went there and found out they were the only local authorized Speed Queen dealers, which is why I hadn't seen that brand anywhere else. Commercial grade, fills-up-with-water, gets the clothes clean kind of washer. Although the specs say 3.3 cu ft and I had been looking at 3.7-3.9 sizes, the Speed Queen can take bigger loads than the other brands because it doesn't skimp on water. It isn't the size of the drum, but how you use it. ;-)
It comes with a 3 year parts & labor warranty from the manufacturer, and 15 year warranty on the transmission. Plus, it is made in the USA and uses steel parts where other brands have gone to plastic.
I've had it for a few weeks now and it does an amazing job cleaning.
