Anyone Else Dislike Their H.E. Washer?

I have a Fridgidare(sp) front loader HE and although I feel the clothes are clean and mostly dry I hate the fact that the clothes sometimes fall on the floor when I take them out. I try to be careful but there is always a piece or two that end up on the dirty basement floor. I try to stick an empty basket in front of it and just pull them out into the basket then transfer to dryer. I wouldn't have bought it had I known I would have went with a top loader. I just bought it a couple months ago so I have years to go before it dies.

This is why I will not get a HE washer-even though I LOVE the looks of those front loading ones. They are notoriously horrible at cleaning. I don't want to gross you out but I have read of tests done on clothes cleaned with them and there was actually fecal matter still on them! I have the "old fashioned" top loader that probably uses a ton of energy but cleans perfectly. I will baby that for as long as I can-I don't care how unsexy it is.

We bought the LG front loaders last year when our old top loader finally died. We absolutely LOVE them, haven't had any problems with the clothes being clean. The only issue I have had is having to run the spin cycle twice when I wash our king size comforters but other than that they are great. I used to have to run my old dryer for 1 to 1/2 half for towels, now they dry in about 30 minutes :)

You must have a lemon...... and since it is GE I would pretty much flat out say you have a lemon. I HATE GE... We replaced everything that was GE in our house.

I do have a front load HE... Mine is Maytag Neptune and I have never had an issue. Clothes do get clean, less drying time. My only complaint is that is you forget to put something in, your are out of luck until the next load.

I am not a huge Maytag fan either.... I must have just gotten a good set because my top of the line Maytag fridge and dishwasher died within 4 yrs. They really sucked. This washer/dryer set is about 10 yrs old.

I do not own one of these machines, but if the machine is leaving black oil on the clothing, it is coming from the machines transmission. Call the place where you purchased it from/or call GE and demand something be done...after all these service repairs I believe companies have policies to replace defective products. As for a new washing machine do not purchase a Fisher and Paykel-they are poc’s too...

I have had a kenmore for years!!! The only thing that has happened to it was the spin cycle has gone out on me twice....but hehehe oops that was MY fault for overloading the thing! My bad! That is what happens when you have twin girls that change clothes every 5 seconds-ugh!
My parents had Kenmore as well it was this puke yellow color but they had it over 20+ years! Anyways our Kenmore has been great and we probably working on about 13 years this September!!!
We have a GE Dishwasher and it "seems" to be fine.......we have only had it a year so hard to tell at this point but I can tell you this ANY dishwasher is better than the one the builder put in our home-lol!

Mine is a Sears brand and it works great! There are definitely some lemons out there, as with most products. But mine gets the clothes really clean, and I haven't had any of the "horror story" maintenance/repair issues some people have had either.
I may or may not get another one, whenever I end up needing to replace this one (we've had it for almost 5 years now-so hopefully it will be a few years yet before that is an issue)--but I DO love having no agitator. I wash comforters and quilts in my machine with no problems. And I LOVE to keep them laundered at home. They never feel clean when I take them out to find an industrial machine to wash them in, or HAVE them washed in.

It sounds like you got a real lemon if it is leaving grease on your clothes. :( Ugh. I'd hate it too!

The grease spots definately sound like a defect or malfunction of some major sort.

I have a Frigidaire front load HE washer and dryer and I really like them. I had early issues with leaking underneath (but there is a filter in ALL washers, no matter the type that can get clogged with those little life things like bra underwires, bobby pins and barettes, coins, small pencils, etc. This was our problem and it was taken care of)...and some stinky clothes issues (but we had this before as well). Borax to boost those loads has taken care of it.

Other than needing to leave the washer door open in between use (which means I won't replace the lightbulb anymore...leaving the door open burns out the bulb quickly)...mine works well. Clothes get clean, less soap and water, and time. It has a sanitize cycle I can use on those particularly ishy dish rags, etc. if I choose to.

And I DO wash nasty dirty clothes. My hubby works outside, in the dirt and heat. His uniform clothes get gritty and gross. Plus I was daycare items like nasty bibs form several kids, spit up rags and the bedding from 7 kids.

Sounds like your lemons are making for a bad experience for you. Sorry.

Don't get the Whirlpool Cabrio.

I have had the Whirlpool Cabrio for over a year now. This is my second high efficiency machine. I have to agree with the one poster who mentioned that these machines do not clean clothes as well as the old fashion top loaders do. I bought another high efficiency because it's what everyone is getting and it is suppose to clean well and save you money. My next machine will be a top loader with an agitator. I'm with you--I'd rather have clean clothes than efficiency.

I HATE my front load HE washer. It just flat out sucks. I wish, pray we only had enough money to get a new one.

Stay away from GE their products do not perform well and they will not stand behind them after the warranty expires. I found this out the hard way. :(

I am so with you! We had a cheap no name top loader washer & matching dryer that we bought for like $400 for the pair from best buy, we had them for more than 4 years never had a problem. Last year we bought a front loading h.e. fridgidaire washer & dryer. I hate them! We have had to have the washer fixed 4 times now and let me tell you how fun not having a washing machine with twin infants is. I also have the same problem Mel f has with everything hitting the floor. I cant wait to buy another top loader. I regret getting rid of my cheapo set.

I got a new LG HE Top Loader a few months ago and I LOVE it! I don't understand how it uses so little water and gets my clothes so clean. Sometimes I get mesmerized just watching it wash my clothes (it has a glass lid). If I were you, I would check into LG washers and dryers. I did a lot of shopping around first and read a lot of reviews and LG consistently had high reviews. Also, I love having a top loader vs. a front loader. We were recently on vacation and our rental property had a front loader and I hated when I found one more sock, etc. to toss in the machine but I couldn't because I had just started the washer 30 seconds earlier. My mom also has a front loader and she's not crazy about it either.

I have a Maytag Neptune HE front load washer and it is awesome, I've had it for about ten years and it has run/cleaned perfectly.
Maybe GE is not as good? Or maybe you just got a lemon :(

Ugh, I am with you! We also have a GE HE machine, not sure if it's the same one you have? I was completely fine with our washing machine but then it up and broke 5 days after our son was born. Great timing. So we bought a GE HE because it was on sale and I am NOT happy with it. I have to do a second rinse on anything (which defeats the purpose of high efficiency, doesn't it???!!!) my son actually got a terrible chemical burn on his arm because our detergent (which is clear and fragrance free so we didn't see it) didn't wash out of his jammies. and it seems to be making my clothes pil faster. ugh. not much we can do about it now though, since it's only 5 months old and we can't afford a new one...
but yes, I'm with you, I hate it!!!

I love mine but it is a front loader. I can't see how a top loader could even be high efficiency.

Anyway mine is a Samsung and works great.

When shopping for any new major appliance I check out Consumer Reports, narrow down which models I want to look at closely, then check out personal reviews for those specific machines (specifically looking at worst/lowest and best/highest ratings).
Looking at what others are complaining about really helps me choose because it counters the advertising hype which usually promises you the sun, moon and stars on a silver platter.
Be sure to write some reviews on your current washer so others are warned of the difficulties you are experiencing.

02/17/2012 I purchased a beautiful Samsung 4.7 Cu. Ft. HE, Top load with glass lid. Samsung’s mistake is the glass lid. Me, my cat and 3-year-old grandson watch through the lid as dry clothes barley move theough the wash cycle. The “NORMAL” cycle is 70 minutes in length so clothing will absorb water by the end. Yuck!

After 3+ weeks of rewashing loads of clothing and numerous calls to tech support, the technician asked me to consider returning the washer. The technician said, “Trust me on this…return the washer”.
