Hi moms--when we moved into our house it wasn't so bad but now that we have a newborn I notice it so much more....our walls are too thin!!! I was wondering what we could put inside the walls or on the walls to help block out the noise between the bedrooms. My son can hear everything since there rooms back up to each other...any ideas or names of companies that could do this would be so helpful! I do have fans that run at night to block out noise but they have to run on high just to tune noise out and my son says the fan is too loud! I just would like the walls to do there job so that my son can get some good sleep without hearing his sister or the loud fan! I am looking to add a barrier asap! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

I know that some insulation companies can blow insulation into the walls through small holes. You might call around to a few locally and also check with Home Depot and Lowes. Other than that, there probably isn't much you can do other than hang something thick on those walls to muffle sound. Good luck! K.

Hi J.-

I hope someone has a more permanent solution for you but in the meantime have you tried using some type of white noise in your son's room? I know he is older but we have always used it in our babies' room so that the older kids or noises from outside would not wake them up. Perhaps in your son's room it would prevent him from hearing your daughter and other's in the house as well. We just use a small air purifier in our son's room but I know there are many different types out there.

Good luck,
K.

until you figure out the wall barrier situation - put in a box fan and turn it on full blast. You could have a concert and your baby will sleep peacefully through it. My 13 yr old and 8 yr old still have them for the white noise.

Hi J.,

I don't know how much money you want to spend or how much time you want to have put into this but there is a product that is spray insulation. Basically what is done is that a company comes in puts holes in your walls and sprays this expanding insulation between the walls. I have no idea how much it costs, how much time is needed to do it or how much sound it will reduce. I saw it on one of those home improvement shows. Another idea would be to pad the walls of your son's room. With this one someone comes to the house puts batting (material that is used in quilts and furniture) on your walls and then puts material over the walls to conceal and keep the batting in place. I would recommend doing the whole room. However you could start with just the wall you are trying to dampen the noise from. You could probably do this one yourself but I don't know how long it would take. Look on home improvement websites for better descriptions of what I tried to describe.

Good luck,
H.
