First off - I'd like to say THANK YOU our veterans...your service and sacrifices are very much appreciated!!

My dad and husband are vets. I have many friends who are still active duty...and many who are retired or separated. I know there are people who have spouses who are serving or who have served.

Do you do anything special to remember our veterans??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Man, this was not intended to be a political post.

K-Bell - I 100% agree with Savannah on this one. You need to read the bill and not be Nancy Pelosi saying "we need to pass the bill to see what's in it" and totally disappointed that you made this political.

Mamazita - I agree with you... checking out candidates to see what they really support is important.

I have friends overseas right now too. Just sent him a ISPS APO box of Keurig coffee, cookies and treats... it isn't just about honoring our veterans once or twice a year... attending ceremonies and believing that's enough =- I don't say thank you just once or twice a year!

Flag is out and call our son to say thank you for his service. He cracked me up. He was like "your welcome Mom. I love you". Cool kid!

Thank you to all our vets. We owe you a debt of gratitude.

The most special thing I do is VOTE for candidates who have a strong, proven record supporting veterans and veteran support services.
One of the most disrespectful and disgusting things that happens in our government (IMO) is all the BS flag waving, God Bless America politicians who repeatedly strike down this kind of support. These people deserve more.

K-Bell, you can't spend money you don't have. Democrats wanted to spend money on cell phones and food....and there were riders on it...and Harry Reid orchestrated that rider so that Republicans would reject the bill and the democrats could specifically state Republicans don't support our veterans...and the liberal left who didn't bother to read the bill, simply stamped their feet and growled at the Republicans...so do yourself a favor, instead of trying to mess up a post??? Read the bill and the riders that were attached to it so you know what you are talking about before you go spouting off nonsense.

Attending ceremonies is lip service. Not action.

W. W., sorry about that. Drives me nuts when people propagate lies.

Tyler is a retired USAF officer. I will let him know you said thank you.

We don't attend services. We go to Veterans Hospitals in the area and bring care packages for them. That's what we've been doing today. It's not just a once a year thing we do.

Since we still know people who are active duty and overseas, we send care packages to them as well.

Great question!

I want to say thank you. As a military mom this day is very special as I see how people honor our vets. I cannot believe my son is a vet. He spent six years on a carrier. And I spent six years, worrying about him. Not picturing him in military clothes but in his feety pajamas. Five years old. Looking out the window, knowing he wasn't coming back from a night out. And happy when he returned to the United States. All of the programs and honors today remind me how grateful people are. Thank you/

We do fly our flag.

I used to visit my dad's grave and put a flag on it, but now it is 7 hours away :(.

I will also call 3 of my sons (one active duty, 2 on ROTC scholarships).

We will also say a special 'grace' at dinner tonight to include prayers for all friends and family who have served, or are serving our country.

We would have gone to a parade this year, but one daughter was re taking her SAT this past Saturday.

A big THANK YOU to all the men and women who have served and our serving. Thank you for your sacrifice.

One of the schools my children attend collected Halloween candy to send to the troops(we did), and the other school had the children make stars and put pictures of veterans on the stars. They are making a memorial wall at the school. The entire school is to wear red, white and blue today and they have a special presentation this morning for the kids to help them understand what a veteran is and why they are so important. I love this.

I am wearing red, white and blue today.

My father served in the Navy.

I have to run to Walmart today. Not a huge fan of that place, but I love that they also have a wall dedicated to the veterans and have pictures up of them (especially ones currently serving). I would like to see this in all our local stores. I walk past and say a little prayer.

Happy Veterans Day to all!

Thank you for the service your family provided us!!!

My brother was driving a tank in the first wave for Operation Desert Storm back in the early 90's.

My stepfather is a well decorated retired member of the Air Force and to this day at 81, he still loves to fly planes and is a member of the Civil Air Patrol in AL. He and my mom participate each year with Veterans activities and honors in their town and he dresses in his finest uniform.

Since 911, I have always had some sort of flag in my yard but on a day like today, we fly our big flag. We eat lunch out almost daily to get a break and when we see military, firemen, or police when we are having lunch, we buy their lunches.... not just on today, every time we see them. It is a small way we can show appreciation.

I attended the Remembrance Day service at each of my sons schools, then I attended two services at schools I was working at. I attended the Remembrance Day service at church and today I will attend a service at the Cenotaph in the park. (It is going to be a really cold one) My son (a cadet) will be marching in the parade after. We will then attend a reception at the legion.

I spent seven years as a cadet. My dad fought and was injured in WW2 and my grandfather fought in both World Wars. Having grown up next to the air base I have countless friends who grew up military and who are active duty. We also make a point of not shopping. Businesses here used to have to remain closed all day, but now are allowed to open after 1:00pm. I don't think it is too much to ask to take a whole day off from shopping.

Also a huge THANK YOU to our Veteran's - every day of the year!

I know as a military brat (granddaughter, daughter, sister, and wife) that the sacrifice is huge, and way beyond what the general public knows. I'm so incredibly thankful for those who are willing to take on that lifestyle, it's a hard one to say the least.

We spent the day as a family - until dance kicked in. We got to see my niece, which was awesome, and did some Christmas and snow shopping :). We had lunch out (on our own) and dinner out (boys football party). It was just nice to spend the day as a family.

We invited our kids' friends over for breakfast and games. We had a house full of teenagers and they stayed alllllll day. It started with a blessing on the food and my son remembered the veterans and those serving today. I had the kids write letters to our servicemen/women which we will mail off to a local care package making group.

Then, later in the day, as a family we passed out flyers to our neighbors for an upcoming food bank collection that our Boy Scouts put on each year before the holidays. The food collected goes to our local food bank.

It was a great day and I loved seeing all the flags around town.
