Vasectomies - Miami,FL

My husband is getting a vasectomy. I am currently pregnant with our unexpected and unplanned # 4 baby due in 4 months. Any words of wisdom? Advice or suggestions? Also for women who've asked their husband's to do this, how long was it before you felt at ease that the procedure really took? I'm so concerned about getting pregnant again that I suggested to my husband that we still use condoms....just in case ONE slips by and finds a new home inside of my body! Is this fear justified or am I needlessly worried for nothing?

What can I do next?

I would agree with doing it during your pregnancy when it is less likely to be an issue for both of you. His doctor will give him all the details and you should encourage him to make sure his count is zero by submitting a sample at the appropriate time. if he balks remind him how many people saw all your business with each birth

it took my husband a couple of months to be free and clear. They are pretty effective these days!

my exhusband got a vasectomy when our son was 6 wks. after it was done, he went back and "gave a sample" and it showed no little swimmers. seeing as how i am fertile myrtle and got pregnant anytime he looked at me cross eyed (lol) and i never got pregnant again, it worked. however, you may want him to go back periodically and get retested, my ex recently had a scare that he had gotten his new wife pregnant, and it had "grown back". however, this story comes from my children, and it was told to them by my ex, so not sure if that is what really happened....

My hubby got the "v" about 12 yrs ago. Our family was complete with 1 child and i did not want an accident.

After his procedure, it took a solid 6 months for him to be "clear"

I STILL stayed on the pill until my hysterectomy in 2001 which was the best thing I ever did. Only after the hysterectomy did I feel FREE and CLEAR and my sex drive skyrocketed.

As for him, no change in the drive, he still has his drive more so than ever. No change in that department!

You probably don't need to worry about a back-up while you're pregnant and I believe the follow-up test is usually within a few months (I've read that it is a certain number of ejaculations at least before they're all "out"), and by then you might be in the clear without needing to use condoms.

That said, vasectomies are not 100% effective, but are very effective. They might do procedures differently now, but I know plenty of people who were born several years after mom or dad had a tubal ligation or vasectomy (not to scare you, but just get all the information you need ahead of time). I think we are planning on my husband having one whenever we are really through having kids, but I will probably stay on birth control pills as well just for hormone regulation, so we will be doubling-up but not relying on pills.

My hubby had one when we were sure we were finished. You should use some form of protection for a few months just to be sure. The doctor will let you know when things should be "safe". A few extra months of over protection is better than the alternative.
My advice to help hubby in recovery, go ahead and by some baby diapers now. After hubby's surgery, the diapers make perfect ice packs. Take a baby diaper, get it wet and put it in the freezer. When hubby needs relief from the surgery this makes a form fitting ice pack for his comfort. It's not like you won't use the diapers that will be left over.
Good Luck

My DH got his done 5 months after our 2nd child was born. It was his choice. I told him I'd get fixed but he wanted too. He had a rough time healing as he was the 1 in 100 that had a slower heal. But after a few months he was ok. He did all the check points per Dr to make sure he was clear. We too used condoms for a few months then stopped. Now it's 6 years later and all is well. But I did tell him maybe he needs to get another one to make sure ;)

Ask the doc, & I have heard6-8 weeks, but be sure.

words of wisdom- never tell this child they were unplanned, and unexpected, don't make them feel unwelcome.

best, k

My hubby had his when he was in the military in Cali. Funny story actually he had the surgery the day of a softball tourney on base. He LOVED softball so after the surgery we went over to check out how it was going. As time wore on you could tell the numbness was wearing off because he started to sink down lol he was standing up & started crouching like he had to pee. Finally he looks at me & says we gotta go home hahahahaha. I let him be a baby the first 24 hours after that I said Ive had 2 kids, both with stitches down there so dont complain to me about 2 little stitches. I said I dont expect you to run a marathon the next day but you will get up & make your own lunch & whatnot because it will do you no good to lay around & it will hurt more just like after having a baby lol. He was fiune in a few days & yeah the sex drive was not affected at all lol. Ive always used a bag of generic peas for an ice pack it works great & forms to the area your using it on unlike a reg ice pack. Good luck to you & the hubby & dont let him behave like a baby lol

I felt confident after he want for a check up to make sure everything went according to plan. I'm sure it's just the hormones that have got you overly concerned right now.

My spouse had his done at my six week check up. I was finally able to have sex and he couldn't LOL. They told him to use protection until he came in for his follow up lab work to come back and say that he was clear. If he gets it done now, by the time your cleared in 4 months and 6weeks he should be cleared.
