Has anyone had a husband with issues of varicocele? We have not confirmed it but are pretty sure he has it. We will go to a specialist soon. We are afraid this is effecting our ablility to get pregnant. I know there are operations that can be done to fix it to a point. Has anyone had experience with this? AFter an operation, did it help with fertility?

What can I do next?

My husband has some. It didn't affect our ability to get pregnant at all (he had them before we had our kids). He has not had them operated on because the doc he saw about it said they were minor.
Good luck to you!

Hi Mindee,

What a coincidence...I was just researching this last night, as I suspect my husband to have this condition. We have been trying to get pg for a year. From what I have read in my research, most of the women were able to conceive almost immediately after their husband got the surgery :-) So best of luck and baby dust to you!!
Can I ask if he had a SA done and that is how you found out? I need to make an appt for my husband to have a SA done and do not know where to turn.
Thanks and good luck!

Hi Mindee,
My husband also had a varicocele. We did get pregnant after the surgery (but through IVF due to other issues). There is NO WAY we would have ever have been able to even do IVF with the varicocele. Your hubby definitely needs to get the surgery. Unfortunately, the pain is pretty intense the first week after surgery, so be sure he has plenty of pain meds. Our surgeon told us he could go back to work in a day, which really underestimated the recovery time. It took him a good week to feel like himself. Be ready to do lots of babying, I did! :o) Best of luck getting prego. I still pray for another miracle (without IVF) every month.

My brother had this problem and had it fixed in his early 20's--before he was married. He and his wife have 3 healthy little girls so his fertility is fine. In fact, 2 of their 3 girls were surprise pregnancies so I would say his fertility is great!
Good luck in your pregnancy quest! Baby dust to you...
