G., Please select any other company except TXU. If more people would do their price comparisons and switch based on cost, all the companies would begin lowering their rates to stay competitive.

To find out the best rates for your situation, go to www.powertochoose.org and put in your zip code. It will give you the details about the different electric companies that service your area and will also give you the rates available depending on the plan you choose. Some have no time commitment stipulations, but most of those are variable rate plans which means they can fluctuate. That's what I used on our rent house thru Amigo Energy. It had the lowest rate at .108 per KWh, but there was always a chance the rate could increase. It never increased in the past 4 months though.

I have a fixed rate plan at our home thru First Choice Power. If I choose to switch before 12 months is up, I will be charged a $150 penalty. It was the cheapest rate available at the time I made the switch. I'll choose a lower rate plan once my 12 month contract is up.

I've had no problems with either of those companies myself.

So it's best to choose based on your personal situation. I always try to choose based on price myself. Some people like to choose companies that are environmentally friendly (i.e., "green" or "wind powered"). Those are usually the most expensive plans, but you will be helping the environment.

Be sure to read the terms of service and other company and rate info carefully as they should explain exactly what your cost will be and what the different stipulations are for the type of plan you're considering.

Good luck with your move and bravo for using your power to choose a different electric provider! :-)

Cirro. Cirro Cirro Cirro Cirro Cirro. I have had it for just over a year and I love it. My mom was asking me about it the other day, she has TXU and wants to make a change. She said she is paying $.18 per kilowatt hour. I checked my last statement and I am paying just under $.13 per kilowatt hour. www.cirroenergy.com Good luck!

Hi G.,
I am an Ignite associate with Stream Energy. We will ALWAYS have lower rates than TXU. Right now it looks like for month to month it is .129 per kilowatt and for fixed year it is .125 per kilowatt. If you want to check it out or sign up, you can go to www.juliemoore.igniteinc.biz
Do not use TXU!!
thanks!

Whatever you do, do not go with Gexa!! They were the low cost leader when I switched to them. We moved into our new house and a month later we were left without electricity for 2 days with a 3 DAY OLD NEWBORN. They screwed up some paperwork so it wasn't even our fault! Their customer service was AWFUL and they wouldn't even turn our power back on with an emergency status!! I sent 5 certified letters to several members of management regarding the situation and asking for compenstation (food in the fridge going bad, ect.) I was never contacted! Channel 5 news actually came to my home and did a story about my situation. And Gexa FINALLY contacted me after Channel 5 news stepped. And they compensated me--a little! So, please, don't go with Gexa!!
