My 11 1/2 year old is just starting to get pimples on her chin and on her forehead near her hairline. She showers every evening and cleans her face after school with facial wipes so I don't think it's a cleanliness issue. She has always had very sensitive skin so I shold have known the 10% Benzoyl Peroxide cream would dry her skin out! It did get rid of the zit though. Any other ideas of how to clear up a pimple on sensitive skin without dryng out the skin. Her chin was dry and reddish for days afterward :( I felt really bad. So I had her apply lotion, which may have then caused another pimple! Any specific brand of products that have helped your tween? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi Renee. I have/had sensitive skin as a tween and now and still fite pimples at 45.
here is what my dermatologist advised then and i continue to do:
1. wash face with gentle non soap and non drying cleanser. drying makes skin more sensitive and prone to redness. I was told cetaphil or purpose. i have been using cetaphil since the age of 10!!!!

2. prescription antibiotic pimple cream for spots only. i put a tiny bit on a q-tip on the pimple and that's it.

3. sunblock during day so that pimple/red mark will heal faster without leaving red marks. although those heal as well in time :)

hope this helps,
jilly

Hi Renee. Cleanliness is so important when dealing with acne. Besides the face washing, make sure that she knows not to touch her face much but that she should keep her hands really clean anyway.
My daughter (almost 17) was very sensitive to those strong products and is allergic to salicylic acid. Her dermatologist recommended Panoxyl cleanser. We get it at CVS and it's great. It's a general cleanser though, it doesn't treat a pimple. The best thing is to prevent the pimples from happening by keeping the face really clean. My daughter has found that if she has a pimple, drying it overnight by dabbing on some caladryl works. She also uses prescription meds now.
Good luck!

Yes, have her put talcum powder or toothpaste on the pimple at night before bed. It should be cleared up by morning. If not, then try again the next night! Some are more stubborn than others. :-)

My 12 year old was the same way. Pimples stayed but face got red. She uses the AcneFree products. It's a cleanser, toner and moisturizer. I know the cleanser is what is most important but in our case I think the moisturizer is the key. When she uses it regularly the acne really clears up! You can get it almost anywhere.

You need to get her on a regular regime for skin care. She needs to cleanse her face morning and night and put a skin care lotion on to keep her skin from drying out. Clinique is good for young skin. I use Sheseido skincare and have for years, but that is more expensive. I am sure there are over the counter products like Neutrogena or Olay, but get her on something and make sure she does it every morning and night. Also make sure she keeps her hands away from her face.............I know I sound like someone who has been though it and I have many years ago. No time like the present to teach our kids good skin care techniques. Good luck and she will be fine!

Hi Renee,

Your skin is your largest organ and everything we put in our body that is not healthy will reflect in our skin. When the liver becomes toxic from all the chemicals we expose ourselves to it starts to back up on our face or our skin. I have my granddaughter drinking good healthy water from the Waterfall unit which cleanses and releases toxins from her body and I give her whole food supplements and her pimples are gone naturally. If you want more information email me.

Have a great day.

Hi Renee,
Jafra makes a product called Malibu Miracle Mask which works really well on all types of skin and will gently get rid of pimples. The active ingredients are:
Glycerin, Barley Flour, Almond Meal, Honey, Peppermint & Spearmint, Potassium Alginate (Kelp) and Zinc Oxide. Cost is $17. I have seen this product work miracles on serious acne/scarred skin. There's a consultant in Sacramento if you're interested. I'd be more than happy to put you in touch with her if you want to give Malibu a try.
