Tv Repair or Not?

Even at 4 1/2 it is still old technology. The new TV's are not badly priced and my suggestion would be to donate this TV (electronics class, etc) and get a new one.

Call Samsung first. Our Vizio did something similar. I had to "reset" things. After unplugging it I had to do a series of things the tech talked me through and it fixed the glitch. They may not be able to do anything for you, but it may be very worth your time to call them.

We took an offname flat screen to a TV repairman about 4 years ago and he wouldn't even take it. He said that once he spends a few hours diagnosing the problem and he determines it will cost a few hundred dollars no-one ever wants to repair them so he's stuck with not being reimbursed for his time and he's got another TV on his hands that won't work.

WE bought a new one. Google your model TV - if there's a common problem that has happened with your model and it's an easy fix it will be on some tech bulletin board somewhere. Otherewise it's probably going to be time to go shopping.

We've gotten TVs repaired for $50 or less, with a 3 month warranty included. If you can find someone who will do it for cheap, you'll be glad you did!

First find out if there are TV repair people in your area. The one I used to go to went out of business ten years ago...

Call and get a quote on how much it will be to fix. That will help you make your decision. We ditched ours when we found out how much it was to fix our 4 yo Samsung.

Probably a lamp has burned out. Consult the troubleshooting portion of your manual to see for sure. If it's the lamp, you can just order it and replace the old one yourself. But a note that the newer TVs just don't last as long as the old school models that we grew up w/.

If a repair would cost over 10% of it's replacement value on an electronic or household item consider replacement as the best option as usually when an item fails another repair comes along soon. This does not hold true for cars as sometimes a car can be well kept and a 1k repair will take you 100k more miles. Replacement is the cost to go out Nd buu another today, not what was paid for original. Technology constantly advances so you would be repairing out of date technology after 36months of ownership.

I would probably just replace it.

Have you tried looking online for common reasons for a black screen in your particular TV? DH does this a lot and often is able to fix things for way cheaper than a repair shop, or buying new. What about calling Samsung to see if they can offer any help? I'd rather fix it for $100 than buy a new one, but that's me.

My father is a t.v. repair man. Call the company first and see if they can trouble shoot with you. If you take it to a repair shop, 9 out of 10 times it will not be worth fixing. The sad thing is that todays tvs are meant to throw away. If you call on the phone they can do nothing for you. It's like if you call a doctor and tell him your syptoms. They can maybe make a guess but wont tell you anything or do anything unless you come in.
