Tubes Tied Anyone?

I am having my third child and know that this will be my last. However, I would really like to get my tubes tied, as I've had trouble with pills, etc. I'm 6 months pregnant now and moving onto another doctor: one reason being she refused to tie my tubes after the birth. Now, I've heard the second doctor won't allow it as some hospitals (religous based) in Tucson won't allow it. Am I crazy for wanting my tubes tied right after the birth? Is there some reason I'm missing that this maybe is not a "normal" procedure anymore?

What can I do next?

I had my tubes tied at TMC after my son was born - at 6 weeks postpartum. I believe the reason is that some states have a 30-day (or more in some cases) waiting period. Because the procedue is considered "permanent" Dr's want to be sure that you are sure about the decision. You can read more if you do a search on google.com with "waiting for a tubal ligation" or "tubal ligation waiting peroid."

Good luck!

I am in the same situation as far as being pregnant with the third. I haven't heard of that going on here in Tucson but I will surely ask the dr at my appt on Friday. Is it perhaps that you are under 25? Sometimes a dr won't do it based on your age no matter how many children you have. I will let you know what I find out on Friday.

I am 22 just had my third child a year ago, as long as you are over 21 or have at least 2 children, there is no reason a doctor should not tie your tubes, unless it is just their "believe". I too wanted my tubes tied, but I couldn't handle the thought of still having a period and never being able to carry a child again, I had the worst pregnancy with all 3 of my children, and I still didn't want to be fixed..go figure!...anyways, I had the a similar issue with a dr I saw while my dr was unavailable, my cr and I had discussed enducing me due to problems of being so big while pregnant.... this other dr said there is no way she was going to schedule me for this...I talked to my dr and told her to keep her away from me and she did and I was enduced a week later. There are other alternatives though, I too have problems with the shot and pill, I myself am looking into the IUD, there are pros and cons as with anything, maybe request a pamphlet from your doctor, it may be something you are interested in. Either way its your choice!

I got my tubes tied the day after my second daughter was born. She was born at night and I got my tubes tied the following morning. I would suggest you keep pushing the issue until the give in. They are supposed to do what you want and think is best. Most doctors out here prefer to do vasectomies since they have a shorter recovery period. But, I say if this is what you want then don't stop pushing it until they agree. My doctor didn't want to do my tubal because I was only 20. But I got my way and have no regrets. Good luck!

My friend had her last child at one of the Catholic hospitals here in Tucson and the do not do that there. She had her tubes tied recently at an outpatient surgery place. It all depends on where you deliver the baby. It is very easy to have done. I am going to do it after my baby is born. If I cant have it done right away I will wait a little bit, but my husband is also going to get fixed.

Hi S.,
I was incredibly angry to hear that any docotors or hospitals would refuse a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body.
I know when I had my son at TMC, if you have a c-section they tie your tubes for free. Since it was my first child I opted not to do it but in the future, should I decide to do so I would definitely go to them.
I also know that having your tubes tied these days is a lot easier. I am in school with a girl who had hers done without an invasive procedure (laproscopy?), anyways, hope this helped.
