She's not having any problems its been 2 years and he doesnt want the eardrum breaking down and there still in the eardrum and they are functioning. So he said he'll have to peal them out. Is this going to hurt?

So What Happened?

We went yesterday and had them out. I held her in my lap the nurse held her face and talk to her and he went in a popped them out. she cried and then he went in for the other and she cried,we got up out of the chair, they gave her a sucker and we walked out. By the time we were out the door she was fine i had a surprise waiting in the truck, strawberry shortcake, so i was worse off than she was but it went good. But saturday night we were in the ER because she swallowed a necklace..were ok it turned out to be a bead..so were just waiting for it to come out in the end....lol...she has NEVER put anything in her mouth until now..lol.. thanks to all the moms that responded and said a prayer...

I had this with both my children. Make sure you follow the directions exactly as the doctor says. My son had wax build-up and taking the tube out of one ear was painful for him. My daughter was scared and cried but the process was quick. The longest part was holding her down and keeping her still so they could be taken out.

My son's tubes fell out on their own. I've had to hold my kids for stitches and a circumcision. I just stay close to them so they can see me and talk in a soothing and reassuring voice. I try to be a comfort to them. It sounds like it won't be as bad as putting tubes in if they are doing it in the office. My prayers are with you! Good luck!

There was no pain at all with my daughter. They just reached in with a tool and pulled it (there was only one left in), out. It was very fast.

My son was 4 when he had his taken out (like you daughter's,they had not fallen out on their own after more than 2 years) and it was completely quick and easy. The nurse held his head still - I was in his line of sight to reassure him, and the Dr. reached in with a special piece of equipment and took them out. Really, no big deal. I hope it goes just as smoothly for your daughter.

weird. My daughter had tubes in at a year and she is 4 now. One feel out last year but one is still in and my docter said it was fine to leave it in. It will fall out on its own. Is your lil one having problems with them or something?

i am a rn in an ent clinic at a children's hospital. if they're going to take them out, then they are just sitting the the canal but not in the eardrum doing their job anymore. we lay them down on the table in a treatment room, a nurse holds their head still, and they just grab them out using an instrument. very quick and easy. the tubes are so tiny, you'll be amazed. usually they're in a ball of wax, so you may think something big is coming out at first. if the child will do well, we do it that way, if they'll fight and scream, we'll usually strap them up in a papoose, just to keep them safe and so they don't move with the instrument in their ear.
