My son is 13 months old and looks like we are in the position to talk with an ENT specialist after being diagnosed with his sixth ear infection since September. Can any of you moms out there give me some pros and cons of having these tubes done? I'm so scared for my little guy!

What can I do next?

Hi S.
We see alot of moms in your position and are able to successfully avoid surgery for their little ones. I know this may seem crazy, but chiropractic will help. The techniques used for children are very gentle and involve no twisting or "popping." Just to give you some numbers, one study showed that
93% of all children's recurrent ear infections resolved, 75% in 10 days or fewer and 43% with only one or two treatments.

Here is a website that explains how it works:
http://www.erinelster.com/ConditionsDetail.aspx?Condition...

And there are multiple case studies that you can read. Including this one:
Female, Age 2 years, Chronic Sinus / Ear Infections This 2-year-old female suffered from chronic sinus and ear infections for the previous year. Her mother described her as having an ear infection every other month, each time requiring 2-3 courses of antibiotics. She also presented with a chronic, green sinus discharge that never went away. Most of the time, her nose was completely blocked.
After care was administered, her nose drained until all of the green discharge was ABSENT AND NO ADDITIONAL SINUS OR EAR INFECTIONS OCCCURRED.

Our website is

We are in Belleville, IL but if you need someone closer, let me know where you are and I'll find you a chiropractor that sees children.

My daughter got them done when she was 15 months old. They have been a tremendous help for her. She has never had an ear infection since then. The Dr. told us they will just fall out and will not hurt them at all. Once they are in they have you check in like every 6 months until they fall out. They surgery is a little rough for them because it is so short. All they do is slice a little cut in the ear drum to let the fluid drain so by they time your little one is finally under they are fulling them back out of the anesthesia. The actual surgery only takes about 15 minutes. It is hard to get them to wake up but if you just hold them and rock them they will be fine once they take a nice nap to wear it all out of their system. It was a lifesaver for our daughter. She had an ear infection every month she was born but for three. Also, it can affect their hearing if not taken care of. She actually failed the hearing test because there was so much fluid in her ears. She didn't talk to much until we got them put in and then she took right off. I know some kids struggle with them be we have had a great experience. I wish the best of luck for you whatever you do!

my 3 year old had tube placed at about 18 months or so. the surgery was so simple and she had no complications from it and was back to daycare the next day. she was in and out of surgery in less then an hour. the tubes helped with the chronic ear infections and helped relieve the painful symptons that come along with them. she has had maybe two or three ear infections since we had them placed and before she was having liek two or three a month. i would do it again if if in the same situation.

My son had tubes placed in both his ear at the age of 1 1/2 for re-occuring ear infections. It was hard in not letting him eat for hours beforehand, but the surgery went smoothly. The tubes never caused any real major problems and eventually fell out on their own about 1-2 years after being placed. He has not had any major ear infections since then, just that his ears drain a little more than others. I have no regrets having this done and neither will you.

Hi S.,

My daughter had tubes put in right before she turned 2, and it was the best thing we ever did. The surgery took very little time, and later that day she was back to herself. The difference it made for her was nothing but positive, and I would do it over again in a heartbeat!

Both of my kids have had them done and i agree witht he others it is a simple procedor. I think the most time my daughters surtgery has last from start to finish is 30 minutes and that is taking her back putting her to sleep and then doing it and her waking up when they were done. It is an easy simple procedure and i hope that it works the first time for you. Plus when my oldest had them done, she was two years old and she wasnt talking, after her surgery and she could hear she started talking so clearly and wonderful.

As a mom who should have put tubes in her son's ears...please go ahead with it. My oldest had many, many ear infections his first 2 years of life. The pediatrician kept telling me he would outgrow them. He did, eventually, but because of the ear infections and fluid in his ears the first 3 years of his life, he ended up with a severe speech delay. He's 8 and still receiving speech therapy, because of the mild hearing loss he had the first 3 years of life. While scary, I would encourage any mom to go ahead with the tubes, in hopes to avoid years of speech therapy.
