Hi y'all!
This is probably a little dumb and im sure I could google it but I thought I would ask y'all since I can't seem to tear myself away today :) all week there have been survey trucks on/around my street with their cameras set up, taking pics, ect. They had one if them set up in my driveway I almost ran over :( so, why do they do that? Please don't tell me they are fixing to demolish the street!! Well ok, if they are just tell me:)
have a great weekend everybody!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks y'all! Of course today they aren't out here and for the life of me I can't remember the name on the door! They were not with the city that's why I was wondering what it could be? Our street is narrow enough and it would be a real crapper if they tore it up! But im just a civilian and they probably wont give a hoot what I thought either way!

I'd walk outside with a pot of coffee and ask them what's going on. Those kind of things aren't usually any big secret and they'll welcome the excuse to take a break and the fresh coffee.

Or, you could call the agency listed on their trucks and ask them what's going on, that you live on XYZ Street and why are all these trucks taking measurements?

They might be looking at something like replacing water mains. You could ask them.

You usually don't get survey trucks for street repairs. We had some major sewer work done, there were surveys for that. Pretty much anything underground. The only way they would be sent out for road work would be if they were changing the grade.

Did they say google on the trucks because they have been working on street view for months.

In our area, right near you, most of the survey trucks are part of the Barnett Shale gas exploration and drilling. They're doing tons of surveying in Mansfield, so they probably are in Arlington, too.

Totally puzzled here: Do these survey crews belong to your city/town/county government? Is that the type of surveying you mean, where the employees are out there in orange vests using equipment to do things like measure the street in detail? I would get out there and ASK one of these people who they're working for and what's going on. It sounds to me like your local government is possibly surveying in advance of doing road works -- that is extremely typical around here, where we have our city's trucks around and employees doing measuring and other tests in advance of road works (we have a LOT of road improvements always going on). But if you want to find out, go out and ask; or if the trucks have the city or county logo on them, call the appropriate public works department and ask.
