Hello, my husband and I are considering buying a trampoline for our three boys for Christmas. I am sure that many moms have researched trampolines and I would like to purchase the safest one possible. Please share any input. Thank you very much!

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to give such good information. I looked into the Jump Sport Trampoline and am really interested. I also put in a call to our homeowner's insurance agent and am waiting to hear back. We decided that we are going to wait until spring or summer to purchase a one though. It looks like the safe ones are a bit pricey! We have plenty of time to save! :)

Hi, We bought a trampoline a few months ago. We were very concerned about safety - my husband had refused to let us get one til now finally due to safety concerns! (My kids are 7 yrs old.) After asking on another yahoo group for tramp advice I got a few responses & after reviewing & debating for about a month we decided to go w/ the company jumpsport & got a 14ft staged bounced trampoline w/ a safety net. Total was about $900. If you do go w/ this company - google jumpsport coupon as we saved a little with a coupon I found online. here's jumpsports website http://www.jumpsport.com/trampolines.htm

The one at Costco looks really nice & my kids have bounced on one as a friend has it....but after reading reviews on it we decided against it for 3 reasons. It twists the knees & there is a chance of pinching fingers in the rods - there is a video online showing it at this website that reviews tramp safety. Also we have seen 1sthand that kids just don't zip up the door - so they can fall out. Our trampoline has a zip free door that works awesome. Another thing we found out later w/ this tramp is you just don't bounce as high. My kids could totally tell the difference after getting used to ours & then going on their friends. Ours is much bouncier & just more fun! it was kinda funny as my kids whined a bit after we decided not to go with their friends one but now they are happy we didn't. Watching the reviews too made me sure we didn't want to get a cheaper one from walmart as we saw the danger of it on this site.

I can tell you my husband & kids LOVE LOVE our trampoline & seriously use it every day, sometimes on the weekends it gets used for 2 hours+ a day. We are very glad we invested in this one & would not change our decision.

Hi M.,

Before you decide to purchase the trampoline, be sure that your homeowner's policy will cover the liability exposure. Most companies today do not like trampolines or diving boards and could not cover if there was a liability loss. That would even the case if you were not home and someone fell off the trampoline - you would still be responsibile for the liability exposure. I know it sounds like great fun, but before you purchase a large ticket item, make sure you are covered.

Have a Great Day!

you may want to double check with your homeowners insurance company and make sure they will not drop you if they find out you have a trampoline. Most will not cover it and will even drop your policy. It's a bummer I know.

Hello M.< We are into our 3rd trampoline and I refuse to be without one because of all the enjoyment by myself, my children and even grandchildren.
I honestly believe that the rectangle shape is the one I liked the best. Yes, it takes up more space but I think it is the best for jumping and playing on.
That said--- I bought our last one at WalMart, along with the safety net. I have learned that when the net falls apart because the children grab it and pull,-- I put up the bright orange safety fencing at Home Depote and it works just as well and we use the old safety net as a shade top for the little ones while they jump(held it down with tie wraps). I think that the pleasure they bring it worth the price, and you can get replacement parts online just look up trampolines.
Have fun, exercise, and lots of laughter. Nana Glenda

Hi M.

I will agree with what Erika said. I had the same experience. We had a cheaper one when we lived in Spain. It was fine. But now we have I beleive a middle of the line Jumpsport and the bounce is MUCH better. And of course we have a net around it! Don't even think about it without it.
Like the other mom said, check homeowners insurance. Our rule is that no guest can do flips on it, only my children. Good luck and have lots of fun.

M.,
Okay there are two sides to this. They are fun and the kids are entertained for hours on them. The flip side is that when my kids played on them they got neck problems and had to make repeated visits to the chiropractor to fix the problem. It was either that or constant head aches. either way check with your pediatricians office and see what recommendations they have before spending the money.

We bought a trampoline for our sons when they were about 8 and 9... It was a nice, state of the art one. Trust me tho, they are dangerous no matter what and the whole time you are outside monitoring them while they play on it you will be a freakin' nervous wreck just hoping they finally get tired enough to get off of it!
We never had any serious accidents in the 5 yr life span of the trampoline and my youngest son got really great on it doing flips and such. You will also have neighborhood kids coming over wanting to jump and these days you better get something signed from the mothers authorizing the use. If you don't have good home owners insurance and good neighbors I'd advise not letting the neighborhood use it.

Its great exercise for sure, but like I said earlier it will make you nervous. I thought I would like jumping on it too but it always made my guts feel like they were gonna fall out, needless to say I became more of an observer than a jumper ;)
Hope this helps.

We were thinking of getting one - my kids are 13, 10, 8 and 5....but a friend of mine is an ER doc, and she told me that she would never under any circumstance get a trampoline for her kids. She says a lot of the kids she sees in the ER with injuries -especially broken bones, are from jumping on a trampoline... or falling from a trampoline. Even with a net. So, she changed our minds. That said, I have siblings who have had trampolines - my kids have done plenty of jumping on them - and so far we haven't had any major injuries. You just never know.

Hi. Trampolines are great for kids. Be sure to check your home owners insurance and that they will insure you with a trampoline. Good luck!
