B.Q.
My daugher lost her's yesterday. her first one. we looked it up on the internet. T.F grinds it up to make fairy dust..
This is just for fun and a real question. My daughter has her first loose tooth and has decided she wants to keep it. I told her when it comes out the tooth fairy needs her tooth and will give her money for it. My daughter wants the money but wants the tooth so she wanted to know what the tooth fairy does with the tooth. I was stomped. I have no idea why the Tooth Fairy wants teeth. What did you all tell your children when they asked what she does with the teeth she collects? My daughter is very disapointed that she can't keep the tooth. I have never heard of anyone wanting to keep their teeth. Please help me answer this question. I want her to believe in fantasy a little while longer.
Thank you all for the good tips. My daughter is 5 so she is at the age where she questions everything. I had a hard time Christmas too because all the Santa's she saw looked different even the ones on TV. I like the fairy dust answer so I will tell her that one.

tell her she likes to collect them , like some little girls like to collect little pretty rocks, the tooth fairy collects pretty little teeth. .
At least that's what I'd say.
I knew a woman that told her kids that the TF takes the tooth and gives it to someone with no teeth. That backfired when her son demanded to meet the person that got his teeth. Oops.
A friend once told me her aunt told the kids the TF takes the tooth and sends it into orbit where it becomes a star.
I wonder how old she is? 5, 6? This is a good question she is asking for sure...I am a little stumped as well...If she is a 'fairy', 'princess' kind of girl I think maybe telling her that's what 'fairy dust' is made from with other magical ingredients, like baby's first laughs, the light from mommy's eyes, the strength of Daddy's, etc..
Hope this helps a little...cuz' GEEEEZZZ I can't think of another thing!!!
Some people tell their kids they are for the people who didn't take care of their teeth and need dentures. My kids never asked for their teeth but my exhusband kept some of them and even kept their umbilical cords(gross I know). Heck I even have a sister who has kept all of the lost whiskers from her cats.
My tooth fairy left our teeth with the money. Every time, my parents were "surprised" and told us how lucky we were that she knew we wanted it so badly!
when my kids would ask me that i would just tell them "i am not sure what the tooth fairy does with them, but i know it is something very special and she (TF) told me to tell you that if you want $1.00 for your teeth, then you have to leave it for her to take and you dont get it back, if you dont want her to take your teeth, then you can keep it, but you wont get any money for it" either way, they are going to know sooner or later she isnt real.
I've heard the tooth fairy takes the teeth from the big kids who are loosing them and gives them to the babies who are just getting them in. That's what I told my daughter, who has her first just coming loose.
My son wanted to keep his too. I just told him the TF would let him keep his tooth if he wrote her a note *all by himself.* He's a great reader, but his handwriting is somewhere between abominable and atrocious, so this was a good motivator to practice. The TF then left him a note saying "Of course, I understand."
When my daughter was little she wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy asking her if it was ok to keep a tooth. The TF wrote back and said that she could keep just ONE as a keepsake because it's her job to collect them and bring them back to her castle. The TF enclosed a pic of her castle, too. Then , my daughter wrote to her again the next time her tooth fell out ! It was so exciting for her !
When mine were little they also wanted to keep a tooth - no problem! They would leave a note for the Tooth Fairy then I would write them a short note from the Tooth Fairy's perspective by using my left hand (I'm right-handed) and explain they could keep their tooth because they were very special but they had to put it in a special place and take care of it. Usually I use teeth to build my castle but it was ok for a few kids to keep theirs. Then I would leave a gold dollar with the note. The next morning they would find the note and dollar and be thrilled. They would be very careful and put the tooth in their little jewelry box or some other special box they had. The next time they would lose a tooth I would explain that the Tooth Fairy probably wouldn't let them keep another one and they wouldn't leave a note asking to keep it. They would get the gold dollar and be thrilled. I have ALL their teeth in the Memory Boxes I made for them - along with other baby stuff, school papers, etc.
As for the Santa dilemma - I always just told my kids all the store Santas were his helpers because the real one had to be in the North Pole making all the toys and everything.
I know there are a lot of parents that are against all this stuff and say we're lying to our kids, blah, blah, blah!!! Well, I don't think a little fantasy in their lives is harmful!!! My kids are in high school now and very well-rounded fine young people!! Besides, I grew up with all the fantasy stuff and I turned out just fine!
That reminds me.... I gotta get ready for the Easter Bunny's arrival!! lol!!
Good luck!!
Last summer each time my middle guy lost a tooth, my baby girl got a new one in - we told them the tooth fairy was recycling them lol! its kinda gross if you think too much about it, but the kids got a big kick out of it :)
sending hugs,
~T.
My kids never asked, they only cared about the money. If they had I would have said she recycles them so babies can get their teeth or something lame like that. :)
Love the answer about Fairy Dust. I can't remember what I told my daughter...probably just that she collects them.
Anyway, if she really wants to keep the tooth I would let her and you could even include a note from the Tooth Fairy just saying something about since she has taken such good care of her teeth and that the Tooth Fairy knows how much she would like to keep this one for herself that the Tooth Fairy is going to leave the tooth for her. (Poorly written I know but I am guessing that you can word it much better) :-)
My oldest son lost his first tooth last year. My three children informed me that the Tooth Fairy takes the teeth to build a castle with them. It seemed to be the accepted reason at school. I had no idea about this castle, but they were very sure of themselves. Yuck. The Tooth Fairy sure can be gross when she wants to be. I suppose she's got no money left to buy proper bricks with.
