Being a dentist--I am very good friends with the tooth fairy. I have heard some kids get upwards of five dollars for a single tooth! I think that's too much. I recommend a dollar or two. Go to the bank and get some gold dollar coins. They are more unusual and seem more special than the ratty old dollar they see in your wallet every day. Also check with the other parents at his school and get in agreement with them about the going rate. That's where he will compare and report that "Tommy got TEN dollars for HIS tooth." Also, I tell children that if their tooth isn't clean and has cavities in it, the tooth fairy only pays a nickel--it's good incentive to get them to brush every day. And the tooth fairy either gives their teeth to new babies or puts them in the sky to make stars, that's why they have to be clean. Have fun--this is a great age!

$5 for the 1st one (which later seemed a little much) then $1 for each one after. When the tooth fairy forgot once, the next night she got 2 50-cent pieces (or maybe it was 4). The first one she wanted to keep so got a special jar and left a note for tooth fairy. Others were "taken" and yes, I save in a ziplock just like others have said. Hint, put in a ziplock when putting under the pillow so it's easier to find. Also write yourself a note right away when it comes out and put it in your bathroom so you don't forget to be the fairy

We did a few singles with a toy for our 1st couple. When my son was younger money meant nothing to him now that he is 7 it's all cash but when he was younger he had more fun getting pokemon or Yugioh(sp) cards with a few singles made it more fun.

I gave my kids $1 and they thought it was the best. I took the teeth and put them away in a memory box and when they grow up and go away, I'm going to give them each their box.

We left my daughter small inexpensive gifts for her teeth. Also, the tooth fairy left a note and decided to leave her teeth for her to keep in a special little glass box.

I agree on comparing notes on the going rate BEFORE your child does. The dollar coins are pretty cool - I believe there are new Washington ones which boys may like - we gave Sacajawea ones for my daughter.

Also: my daughter became attached to the idea of keeping her teeth. We told her to write the tooth fairy a note explaining this. We told her that the tooth fairy isn't BUYING teeth for gosh sakes, but giving the money as a reward/present for growing up and losing them. She got to keep her tooth, but the next time she put a note in with the tooth asking "why do you take the teeth at all?" and the tooth fairy wrote back that it was simply a system to keep less scrupulous kids from resubmitting the same tooth over and over.

For my children's first tooth they got a 2 dollar bill and a small stuffed animal. For the rest of the teeth they got 2 dollars. I also keep the teeth in a ziploc bag in my dresser with the dates of each visit from the tooth fairy. I don't know what I am planning to do with these teeth (give it to them when they are older maybe), but I just can't part with them yet.

Good luck

For my kids' first tooth, they each received $2 along with a pack of sugarless gum. After that, they each got $1 and a pack of sugarless gum. As for the teeth, since I have 2 older boys, I gave them their 'teeth' back and they REALLY enjoyed that! I just explained that they can not let their younger brothers know.

Hello G.,
I made a big mistake. During the morning rush before leaving for work my daughter woke up so exited to see what the tooth Fairy left her and of course I had forgotten. I told her I was going to check the mail box in case she just left it there instead of under her pillow. I rushed to the computer, print a Fairy w/ a little message and put the only bill I had in my purse, a $10!. Then she expected to have a $10 each time! One day I found her in the bathroom touching each tooth and asked her what was she doing and she answered: "counting how much money I have"! I told my husband and he said: "perfect, in a few years she'll be counting how many kidneys she has!"
Good luck!

Hi G.

I am a disney fanatic according to my hubby so the Tooth Fairy leaves a Disney Dollar for my dd teeth. We also have Santa put them in the stockings ($5) and the Easter Bunny also leaves $5 in their baskets. Since we go to Disney World every year, this is a good way for them to have their own money to spend and less stress on mommy with the I wants. This way they know once the money is gone, no more spending. My dd was in Disney world at the time of her first tooth falling out. My mom was with her as I was 9months pregnant at the time, and I think she gave $2 for the first one. I also save hers in a baggie, no clue for what but I couldn't throw them out.
