Bad idea, and big waste of money. Your kid can learn without all of that unnecessary stuff. I truly don't believe that electronics can teach nearly as much as a human, or a book can.

I am prolonging electronics as long as possible. DD just loves to examine books, rocks, and anything she can get her hands on. They have their whole lives for electronics.

Dawn, I ciouldn't have said it better :-)

You are right - kids DO get addicted to TV and electronics. There is SO much that he needs to learn, C., at this age. And he doesn't need to learn by electronic means. He needs books. Puzzles. Manipulatives - things he touches. Playdoh, train track and trains, Duplos, Lincoln logs, etc. The only way to access spatial learning is to use his hands and be taught how to do it. That's your job, Mommy. The ipad, leap frog and TV won't teach him that.

If you want him to be good with rhymes, you can use books. Talk to him. Rhyme with him yourself. If you want him to be good at math, use all these manipulatives I've talked about.

He doesn't need these electronics while he is eating. One of the reasons that so many kids are obese today is because they eat in front of the TV, and don't even notice that they are eating. They just cram food into their mouths.

I don't know about safety for his eyes, but I do know that he has all the time in the world LATER to learn electronics. NOW he needs to be learning by actually doing things with his hands - not passive learning by watching a screen.

I hope you will consider this. I really hope you will.

Dawn

you want him to be an active learner not a passive learner, so instead of toys where he is just watching, purchase toys where he is manipulating and moving things (like Leap frog fridge magnets)
