Toddler Consistently Wakes up at 1Am Just to Be Tucked Back In.

My 2.5 year old son consistently wakes up at 1-2am, comes to our bed and either crawls in and falls back asleep or, if I walk him back over his bed, falls back asleep in his bed with me lying down next to the bed. As long as I lay down next to his bed, he doesn't have problems going back to sleep within 5 minutes but it's a giant disruption to have him wake me every single night at this time! I feel like I'm constantly exhausted. Any tips on how to get this to stop? Anyone ever use one of those stoplight alarm clocks that let toddlers know when he can get out of bed? Do those work?? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi,

We had this problem as well and it was recommended by our ped to change the bed time. Have him go to bed about 45 min later than normal and in a few weeks, his body clock should change where he sleeps through the normal 1am wakeup time. GL and hang in there! I know exactly what you are going through!

Nightime is a long time for a toddler to be alone, I think he just needs some reassurance that you are there. I would continue to do what you are doing. Both of mine came into my bed between 2AM and 4 AM quite a bit until they were 5 or so just for closeness. I said they could stay if they cuddled and went to sleep, but not to wake me up. I was fine with them being in bed with me, but if you'd rather he slept in his own bed and he gets back to sleep so soon, I'd bring him back like you have been doing. I know it is a pain to be woken up now but he evenually will grow up and not seek you out in the night.

My son did this for quite awhile. I tried various approaches without much luck so finally figured My sleep was more important and placed a toddler mattress in my room all made up so when he came in he could curl up on. It and go to sleep without a big disruption. Probably not the ideal solution but it worked for us and he outgrew it when he was ready. Good luck!

My son has woken up at 4 am for almost every day of his 4 years..

Lately I have been thinking he has to pee.. so I am getting him up at 10 pm when I go to bed having him pee and sometimes he sleeps through the 4 am..

if your son is potty trained he might have to pee at this time..
