Tipping - Lisle,IL

I have physical therapy at a medical complex that offers complimentary valet parking, which is awesome since the parking lot is almost always full. Should I tip the valet guy? If so, how much since the service is free?

Have a great day and thank you in advance for answering my super boring question.

What can I do next?

At my local hospital/medical center, they have complimentary valet parking too. I tend to not tip, because there are signs displayed that tipping is not necessary.

I believe these valets are paid a living wage. They are necessary because the parking garage is pretty far from the hospital and medical buildings and gets full very quickly. It is extremely difficult for many people to walk the long distance from the parking lots to get to their medical treatment.

If you do want to tip them, $2 is probably appropriate.

It's a nice thought but don't go broke doing that - I'm not sure how often you go to PT!

I think $2 is great. $5 if you only go once/twice per month or it's a huge complex (saving you from walking very long distance).

Yes to tip the "free' valet. Just a couple of dollars is fine.

I would tip - $5 maybe. It would be worth that much to me to not have to circle the lot endlessly and park in BFE and walk, especially if I was going to PT, which I assume would mean I was already in a fair amount of pain.

My psychiatrist's office belongs to a building filled with businesses and therapy offices and doctor's offices that all pay the generous salary of their valet. The valet there isn't supposed to accept tips, even though with people who don't know any better and insist, I know that he WILL accept them on the sly.

What you need to do is ask your PT office their policy regarding tipping the valet and whether or not "not tipping" is addressed in their contract with the valet. I asked the office manager in my doctor's office and she was adamant that I NOT offer a tip, not even at Christmas, because Bill gets very hefty bonuses and does not have to worry about relying on tips to make a good salary.

The hospital where I had surgery and go for follow-ups has the same thing, I have not ever tipped. I normally only use it if I can't find a spot, the weather is bad, or I am running late.
