The weather is gorgeous that time of year - so anything outdoorsy is fun. Have you been to the Stockyards? Very Texas Country. The Ft. Worth Zoo is always nice, and usually there are some "octoberfest" things going on around town. If she's coming around the beginning of the month (or the very end) - First Monday Trade Days in Canton is really fun. What does she like to do?

I love it here in October! Obviously the biggie is the State Fair. First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Octoberfest in Southlake Town Square. Probably some outdoor thing in Grapevine. The zoo, Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Something we did when family came down is a day trip to Dublin to the Dr. Pepper factory tour. I believe there is a huge petting zoo/pumpkin patch in Grand Prarie, but the name excapes me at the moment.

I love the pumpkin patches around the DFW area that will be open in October. My favorite is the Pumpkin Express in Argyle, but the Flower Mound Pumpkin patch is fun too. Henrietta Creek Orchard in Keller is also a great fall visit. I write about all these experiences and more on www.BurbMom.net so if you want to get the inside scoop from a mom's point of view, check it out. We are running a list of the 70+ local places we have visited over the last year this week (I think it will be published today or tomorrow) if you are interested in checking other places out as well.

The State Fair of Texas will be going on in October.

You might also consider going to the Big Orange Pumpkin Farm at the Bill Bates Cowboy Ranch in Celina...check out www.bigorangepumpkinfarm.com. Its a bit of a drive but there are tons of fun activities.

The Colony will also be holding its Pirate Days festival on the weekend of October 17th...check out www.piratedays.org. That is also a fun event.

Taking the train from Grapevine downtown to the Stockyards is nice that time of year, you can have lunch and watch the cattle drive.
Also the Pumpkin Patch in Flower Mound off 1171 is really fun with hayrides etc.
Have you been to dowtown Dallas House of Blues, there Sunday Gospel music brunch is nice :)

You should definitely head down to the State Fair of Texas (I believe it runs the 2nd and 3rd week of October).

Also, there is a huge pumpkin patch out in Flower Mound. It's all free...bounce houses, hay rides, hay bale mazes. They have food for sale and of course, you can pick your pumpkin. It's really crowded on the weekends, so you might want to go early. I believe they have a website...just put in pumpkin patch and Flower Mound and that should bring it up.

I second the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch! But make sure it's the right one (www.flowermoundpumpkinpatch.com), it's much better than it's imitator right next door! We took my son there last year and decided to make it a family tradition! We took some of my favorite pictures of my son there...they have so many photo ops! The Stockyards is also fun, and downtown Ft. Worth is a good place to visit on the weekends. Of course, the zoo is always fun!

Migration time for the Monarch butterflies is at mid to the end of October (I think it usually starts around Oct. 13). If you make a trip to the botanical gardens, you find butterflies EVERYWHERE. Great picture opportunity. And by then, it's not too hot, so it is usually a fun trip. October 24th and 35th is the Alliance airshow. That's usually lots of fun and it's pretty cheap ($20 per carload). Getting in and out can take a little time. And bring earplugs if you have little ones going. http://www.allianceairshow.com/
