I actually lost my IUC on Thursday. It came out and it's been sitting in a tissue in my bathroom. I barely had it in for 3 days. What I was wondering is if this has happened to anyone else and if so, what was your reason it came out. My dr.'s PA incests that it was in, but I believe different. Please let me know. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for all of your advice. I actually had another Mirena incerted today and it's a completely different feeling then last time. They also took an x-ray to make sure it was in the right place and it seemed to be. Thanks again!

J.,

I was one of the unlucky 1 in 1000. I had Mirena for 10 days. Immediately after insertion I was having TONS of pain. I went to my OBGYN twice because of the pain and was told it was in place correctly. 2 seperate radiologists on 3 seperate ultrasounds said it was in place in my uterus. Come to find out my OBGYN actually inserted it incorrectly and perforated my uterus at insertion so it was never in place. I had to have orthroscopic surgery to have it removed but finally I am Mirena free. I personally would not recommend the Mirena to anyone but like I said, I was one of the unlucky ones. Make sure you know ALL of the risks before you have it re-inserted. My feeling is that if your body rejected it once, I wouldn't try it again...there was a reason for it to come out in the first place. Best wishes!

I was actually on the Mirena website yesterday because I'm interested in getting it, and on the FAQ's it said that your body may push it out, and you would have to get it put it again.

I also responded to your last question about this. Mine was the one that was halfway out by the time the doctor saw me. First off, I don't think mine was inserted correctly, as I didn't feel the pain or cramps like I did when I had it redone. I also had a terrible cold the first time, and I was coughing like crazy for days. I think the force of the coughing probably made it work its way out more quickly. It was about 4-5 days from when they put it in to when I went back to see them again.

Once again, good luck to you--I would have flipped if I saw mine in a tissue!

J.,
I got a mirena IUD early April this year, by the end of the month it was out. I could actually feel mine as it dislodged. My doctor said he had never had that happen before but that my body obviously recognized it as a foreign object and naturally aborted it. I am not on the depo shot and love it.
P.S. I never heard any clicking sound like your friend said.

I have had my Mirena for over a year now & have found some interesting info along the way. 2 of my sister-in-laws (upon my advice) got the IUC & had nothing but problems. They also were told different "after care" instructions. You can imagine how cruddy I felt giving them such poopy advice! Upon investigating a little more, I discoverd that each dr is NOT REQUIRED only advised to take continuing education classes on Mirena. The 2 drs that had bad implants did not have the Mirena certifications. Mine did (by sheer coinsidence) & I have had no problems Maybe you should ask your dr if she/he has had the training seminar. If they tell you there is no such thing, they most likely havent looked into the programs.

Hello J.,

I have had Mirena for for 3 1/2 years now, and absolutely LOVE it! I have already made plans to have it taken out and put a new one in at my next OBGYN visit. I do have a friend who had one fall out, and had another put back in. It happens occasionally, Expulsion is listed as a possible side effect on the Mirena website. The friend who had Mirena come out has had no problems with the second one, and it has been in for over 2 years now. I would probably request that the Doctor actually put the Mirena in this time not the PA, I am not saying it is the PA's fault, but they don't have the same amount of school as an MD and the IUD has to be placed in the exact right place in the uterus. So since the first one fell out I would insist that the OBGYN put the new one in. I really think it is the best thing out there as far as birth control, there are no horrible side effects like with the Depo shot where your hair falls out, you really don't have to think about it other than check the strings occasionally, you didn't pull the strings did you? The strings are to make sure that it is in place properly you should be able to just barely feel them but the doctor pulls them to remove Mirena, I warned my Husband about this one about a million times. It also has if you ask me some wonderful side effects, like I haven't had a period for almost 4 years, and my friend who has it, hasn't had one since she has had the second one put in, not to mention she got it because she had her first daughter planned and got pregnant with the second while taking birth control pills, and she says she did not forget to take any, she was totally surprised. So Mirena seemed like the best choice, and it really has the lowest risk of side effects of any form of birth control. If you go to the website you can find out more information and they have the patient information packet available to read that has all the side effects listed. Here is the website www.Mirena-US.com good luck with everything hope it works out for you.
