Testosterone replacement therapy...anyone familiar with it? Just got a quote for a monthly supply of $250 a month...we cannot afford that! Is this the going rate?? My husband desperately needs the replacement...are we just out of luck here??
It depends on the medicine you are looking at and if you have insurance.
My husband has been on testosterone replacement for almost 3 years now (due to brain tumor and radiation) and we pay his co-pay of $20 per refill of his meds which is every 3 to 4 weeks.
the gel is expensive and for my husband it didnt work. He went with the shots and it cost about $20 a month
My hubby uses the gel. We just called the insurance and asked what they would cover. Then took the list to the doctor and he chose from there. WE pay $35 a month
I would speak w/the dr & see what options are available. There may be some assistance available the pharmicutical co - perhaps they could give him samples, or put him on some type of sliding scale program. Or if they are aware of the circumstances they may be able to prescribe a less expensive alternative. Best of luck to you.
My husband just got tested and his is low as well. The procedure is going to cost $500 and last 4 - 6 months. (He will get the pellets.) I called around and this actually seems like a bargain. Others quoted me $600 - $800. We are going to have the procedure once and see if it makes any difference.
