Hello friends, I am so overwhelmed by all the diffrent acne products out there that I just wanna burry my head in the ground. Ive been using proactive for 7 yrs but lately it has not been working as well and also it's not getting any cheaper. So I'd like to know if there is any over the counter stuff that ya'll can recommend? . Right now I use a Covergirl foundationg called "Clear" i think, but my face gets really oily, any suggestions on makeup? Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

Added: Yes, I use this sunscreen daily under my makeup. Very light and great coverage; doesn't make your face turn white. Also, all of the products above are low on toxicity, per EWG's cosmetics database ...

Peroxide. Bout $1 a huge bottle. If I used it twice a day, I'd have no acne problems. But I get lazy.

And a good light moisturizer. I like Neutrogena Sensitive Skin.

Course, now I've got wrinkles AND acne, grrrrr.

All makeup irritates my skin. I only wear mascara - makes my mornings go faster too.

I used to use BeautiControl for my mousturizer, but I recently found an Aveeno moisturizer and sun block in one that I am LOVING. My skin looks so much better!

Here is what I use per my dermatologist...

Wash with dove unscented soap.
Moisturize with Cetafil CREAM not lotion.
Use only mineral makeup (it is too big to get into your pores). She said the stuff at Walgreens or CVS is fine no need for the really expensive stuff.

I was scared to death to use a heavy moisturizer like the one she recommended and waited for worse break outs...they didn't happen.

She also gave me some prescriptions and if you need them they can be very helpful to get your skin cleared up. I was given an antibiotic, and a blood pressure drug (that also regulates hormones), and a prescription cream that opens your pores and then the medicine in the cream is better absorbed.

I know over the counter stuff would have helped some by themselves...but I know it was the prescriptions that did the hard work to get my face clear.

Glycolic Acid
Salycilic Acid
These 2 things have made all the differance.
I look for it in all my cleansers and moisturizers. Nuetrogena has an excellent line containing salyclic acid.
The Neostrata Gel Lee Lee suggested has Glycolic Acid. I get mine from Avon Anew Retexturizing Clinical Peel.
I use Avon Anew foundation and it is perfect for me. No irritation and it does have sunscreen.

I wash with Clinique's Acne soap and use their acne toner on my skin. I use Keihl's moisturizer (with sunblock). I tried backing off the toner at night - big mistake. However, I am looking for something new to try that has less chemicals. I like Natalie B's suggestion of Melaleuca products - I've used some of their other products for years and have been very happy, so maybe it's time to try their skin care line, too.

My derma recommended Trader Joe's Nourish All-In-One facial cleanser, followed with Olay complete (oil free face lotion) for sensitive skin with SPF15. I also use Noxema triple clean anti-blemish pads. They are great for a quick scrub if you waited awhile before doing your make-up. You'd be surprised how fast your face can accumulate dirt.
My husband gets moderate to severe cystic acne and I have sensitive skin with mild cystic acne and this works great for both of us. Before Nourish my husband had to use OXY Maximum Face Wash Acne Treatment, Maximum Strength. It was the only thing that would work for his acne.
I hated the OXY though, because it has 10% benzoyl peroxide, which would bleach everything! Even if you washed something with something that he had gotten just a little bit of the face cleanser on, it would bleach. When I mentioned that to my Derma he said that was the down side but that anything with at least 5% benzoyl peroxide really was the best thing to use on your face. He went on to say that even his wife has to use something with 5% benzoyl peroxide, and they just use white towels to counter the bleaching problem that comes with it.
I also read an article that said a lot of people have the same problem with ProActive because what happens is your skin gets used to the cleanser itself. So maybe change it up every now and then.
Also, have you tried using a Primer before your foundation? This will help you tremendously. If you have very oily skin, MAC Matte got a lot of good reviews for being able to keep the oiliness at bay. For the tremendously oily, they said it was much better than not using it at all, but that after a few hours they find they still have to blot their skin, but that when they blot while using Matte, the blotting sheets are not soaked with oil like they would normally be without Matte. They also said it was the best product they have found yet, and until they find something else, they will continue using it. You might also want to try this with Pro Longwear SPF10 Fooundation. Thid also got great reviews from women who have oily skin and are acne prone.
Good luck with this and let us know what worked for you. :0)
