Teething and Lost of Apetite

My 4th month old is teething! I can see his bottom teeth starting to peek out!! He gets fusy at times but what concerns me the most is that he is not eating! He will only eat about 2 onces every 4-5hrs! The only thing he uses the nipple for is to grind his gums! Can this be related to teething??

What can I do next?

My first daughter had what looked like teeth but it was actually sucking blisters on her gums. She was sucking so hard to get the milk out of the bottle. My OBGYN said it was common. I realized that it was probably due to the fact that I needed to change the nipple flow size on the bottle. I didn't know that there were different flows for different ages. It could be teeth... either way the homiopathic teething tablets (HEB, Walgreens) really helped.

i always gave my son frozen breast milk to try and make up the difference. i used the mesh feeders and put some chunks of breast milk in it. he liked the cold on his gums and he got more milk. i have never tried it with formula but you could try :)

It's possible.. i mean just think of all the drool & mucus going down in their stomach.. they're probably full of all of that.. does he have runny/loose stool or diarhea that can be from the drool/mucus as well.. it also can be a growing spurt.. i know mine would slow down eating and then all the sudden it's like i couldn't keep up.. as long as they have 3 good wet diapers a day & bowel movements u'll be ok.. he won't let himself starve.. good luck :)

Yea, when your mouth hurts, you don't want to eat. How long as this been going for? I don't think that you can give him Tylenol yet, but you can call the doc and ask. Just make sure that he has plenty of things to chew on, so that when the bottle is introduced that this isn't the only time he can really bite down. This should only last a few days...at a time.

He is fine and his appetite will return once those teeth come in. You can try some teether biscuits, but they are very messy. At least it will give him some calories if you are overly concerned.

Oh yes, sometimes they can also run a low fever, have a runny nose, runny bowels also. All this to get some teeth.

Yes. The sucking motion hurts their gums. It will pass.

Place a clean, wet, baby washcloth in the freezer. When you are about to feed your child, let him chew on the frozen towel. It will ease the pain and maybe allow his some pain relief for feeding.. There are also all natural "teething tablets" at most drug stores, like Walgreens. They can be a real life saver.
