My daughter just turned 6 months 6 days ago and she is cutting her 1st tooth. I've been giving her orel jel and teething rings, like im suppose to. She also hasn't been sleeping that great at night for the last 3 weeks. She's been waking up about 3 or 4 times during the night, But the last 2 nights shes been sleeping almost through the night. I know that this is normal, well atleast i've been told. But, i'm wondering is there anything else i can do to help her through this? If anyone has any ideas please let me know... I'm taking all the help i can thx.

What can I do next?

Hi J...
I remember those days well! I used to give my boys a cold wet face cloth for them to chew on. They loved it more than their teething rings.

Hi J.,

Baby Motrin works for my son. I give it to him before he goes to bed and it last 6-8hrs. You can also use children's motrin in smaller doses (ask the doc. for the correct doseage).

Good luck!

I would try infant tylenol. You can also use infant motrin after 6 months but I would check with your doctor first. Teething is hard. My son just turned 7 months and has 6 teeth already. He got the last three last week...it was a rough week. He ended up getting the symptoms of a cold but it turned out it was just from teething. The tylenol/motrin really helped us out. Our son doesn't like the teething rings... Good luck!!

Hey J.!! My son started teething at 3 months and didn't stop. He's 17 months now and has nearly all of his teeth. Here's some helpful advice: Ditch the ora-gel. They don't like the taste of it and it only works for about 5 minutes (proven fact!!). Try this. Go to the market get a bunch of carrots, long whole ones and a bunch of celery. Cut the charp end of the carrots and put into freezer safe bag then toss them into the freezer. When they're nice and cold gice her one. Let her chomp away on it. If whe breaks off a bigger piece, just throw it out and let her keep going. Celery: keep it in the fridge and just let her go to town on a clean cold piece. Same as carrot, bite off bigger chunk, toss it. Also, take some washcloths, get them wet wring out most of the water and freeze them. Let her chew on these before bed. It will numb her mouth up enough to get her to sleep.
These are the only things that ever work for my son. his doctor said to do it. He still cringes any time he sees the ora-gel tube by the way. If it comes down to it, get the okk from your ped to give her a little bit of baby tylenol, sometimes that's all it really takes.
GOOD LUCK!!!

My son, who will be 2 next month, began teething pretty early and the only way I got through it was infant Tylenol and then, after 6 months, Motrin. Obviously, you want to check with your pediatrician. A lot of moms also swear by the homeopathic teething tabs, but they never seemed to work for my son. Good luck! I know it's hard! We're going through it again with his 2 year molars! Seems like we never get a break!

Hi J.

I have b/g twins. They are 13 mths. Wet a face cloth and put in the freezer for a few minutes. Once it is chilled let your daughter gum/suck on it. We also are putting ice in side the baby safe feeders they do the same thing. Its a little messy but it seems to help.

Hi
We gave Sammy Tylenol before bed to help relieve any pain and help him sleep better. He didn't seem too bothered during the day.
Happy teething!

When we knew our kids were uncomfortable from teething we would give them a dose of Ibuprofen before bed which seemed to ease their pain throughout the night.

Ask your Pediatrician about Infant Motrin and Tylentol to give he.. Tylentol works good for my daughter's teething, but the Motrin made her loopy. But every child is different. Good luck.

Chewing on frozen bagels, and frozen damp washcloths helped my son through his first teeth. Also, when he had particularly rough nights we let him come sleep with us. It seemed to comfort him, plus we didn't have to get up as often. A day or so after each tooth he was happy to be back in his own bed.

Good luck - teething is probably the toughest thing we've gone through so far, but it gets better! :)

Hi J.,

I'm going through the same thing almost with my 5 1/2 month daughter. I have heard to also let them chew on a cool washcloth. I think babies like that its easy to grab onto and can help their gums feel better too.

By the way, I'm J. (28) and had a baby with my boyfriend, well fiance. Where are you from? I'm always trying to find moms around my age.

Hi J.-
You could try a very cold washcloth for her to chomp on. I used to wet a washcloth and put it in a ziploc bag in the fridge. You could also try Hyland's teething tablets. You can find them in the baby aisle in any drugstore. Good luck!

Teething is so painful for them. Try giving her some baby motrin. Ask your doc or nurse first on the dose. Give it to her right before bed time. This will help her through the night.!!! Once the teeth break through it should get better.

Hi J.! Teething stinks. With both of my kids we kept a Ziplock baggie in the fridge with wet wash clothes and gave them out during the day. They say not to freeze them because having them too cold may actually damage cells in the gums so we just kept a bunch of them in the fridge and switched them out often. We also started using that little food net thing...hmm I'm sure it has a real name and I just don't remember it, but you can put a piece of very cold fruit such as apple or pear in the net part and let her chew away on it and it doesn't come out of the net and she has a handle to hold on to at the end of it. You can get them at Babies R Us or Walmart. My son especially loved that. Good luck...this too shall pass. :)

have you tried just a little tylenol at bedtime? Orajel washes off the teeth and gums pretty quickly and the pain may be waking her up, a small dose, 1/2 tsp, may keep the pain away just a little longer and help her sleep better.

Try a couple of things... Take a clean, wet washcloth and wring it out. Put it in a ziploc baggie, then in the freezer. Give it to the baby to chew on when it's nice & cold. Before bedtime, give her a dose of either Motrin or Tylenol to help with the discomfort. Good luck! -S.
