You ladies were wonderful when my tall skinny toddler was having plumber crack with his to big waisted pants.

You guys taught me about the slims...yea!! slim pants with adjustable waists!!

Now I have a new problem.

At the beginning if the school year he was a size 8 for length. So I bought the slim & skinny size 8s and made good use of the adjustable waist (he could still wear size 4 and 5 shorts in the waist).

Those pants started to get a bit on the short size...so I bought slim & regular size 8s...going from slims to regulars bought him some length and could still be tightened with an adjustable waist to fit.

Now those are getting short...he is starting to look like Urkle the dorky kid with to short jeans.

So, I bought slim & skinny size 10s (THERE ARE NO SIZE 9s...they jump to10....10s). And they fall straight down and off his body at the tightest adjustment on the waist. The length is good. No way it the waist going to work for maybe years it is that much bigger!!

What do I do? Does anyone make long jeans for kids??

I have actually Googled this and cannot find any store that carries long jeans for kids....slim, regular and husky...no longs...

Ideas??

ETA: The belt idea would be fine if you were not talking about three to four extra inches of blue jean fabic cinched up around his waist...that is just bulky, uncomfortable and looks weird.

And my son only wants to wear jeans, no shorts, no sweatpants (those are pajamas, MOM)...*sigh*

What can I do next?

This is my problem with my youngest...he has a skinny waist and long legs...he even likes his shorts LONG...

GAP Jeans...he's going to be 11 this July. He's wearing a slim 12 and wears a belt even with the waist adjustment to its tightest....

Since he's been having this problem? he prefers to wear shorts ALL the time...no kidding.....so off to Kohls I go for quality shorts that are LONGER...he likes them to touch his knees....and yes, it's 30 degrees outside and my son is wearing shorts. IF and WHEN he gets cold? He puts on his jeans...other than that? shorts...

My nephew has the same build that you are describing. Slims and a belt or suspenders have been the only options they could find.

The transition from 8 to 10 is a hard one but I would never let my kid wear short pants. ;) I would get the slims in 10 from a place that makes them on the slimmer side - Gap, abercrombie.

ON, THP, Crazy 8, Gymboree all make slims that are still to big for my skinny guy.

I agree, you're in Texas. Winter is officially over here (I'm on the outskirts of SA). Jean shorts is the way to go! Tell your son it's either shorts or plumbers crack - he decides.

If you really need long jeans, I found this gal on 1604/Bandera area. Maybe she can cheaply take in the jeans you buy at the waist. (I simply got on craigstlist and searched "seamstress")

He'll have to use a belt to hold his pants up.

My son is the same way. He is 19, now, and could easily wear a 29 or 30/36. I challange you to find any that size in any store in America. When he was in the 5th grade he spent the entire year in sweats and gym pants because they had elastic and a draw string. There were NO pants that would fit him. Try to find some gym pants or something like that and for more dressy occasions a belt.

I have this problem with my oldest girl, and it was also a big problem for my mom with me. Really skinny and tall. Too slim for juniors, too tall for your own age group size charts. NIGHTMARE!.

American Eagle Outfitters caries a slim jean, that fits like a boot cut jean for men, when worn by tall super skinny boys. Go in and have him try them on.

Another option is the GAP and Old Navy. Their jeans come in longs. But I would try AE first. If you do not have a membership (free) sign up, and save points toward purchases for every dollar spent. You earn up to 40% off the entire purchase every point closing, (monthly)

He can stay in AE until he grows into other brands, and you will save so much more, than if you result to custom made jeans. Their jeans come in long and extra long, so when he gets even taller! They have him covered.

I love this place for my girl. She looks amazing in these little jeans, and they fit her perfectly. Now she isn't super uncomfortable anymore. Makes mama smile :)

As a mom of string beans myself, sadly, there is nothing you can do about this. If the 10 slims are too big in everything except length, learn to sew. Take a wedge out of the rear and sew it down. That way, you can release it when he DOES grow into the 10 waist.

Also, Lands End sells pants that they will hem for you to size. BUT, they are expensive and I am not sure they have toddler sizes. These are what I buy my 15yo who is tall and skinny and can't get a real size in any but a western store (he is a 30x34- NOT a standard size- and his legs are only growing longer).

I have had good luck at Penney's and their Arizona brand fitting my boys well, but that was several years ago, and they have changed. You just have to shop around different brands to see what fits best. Old Navy has also worked well for us in the past. Look for brands that seem to run small.

Good luck.

If you are willing to spend a bit, some of the European brands are cut way slimmer than the US brands (go figure). Try IKKS (French) and Me Too (Danish).
You are in Texas, won't he be able to just wear shorts soon?

Take them in. Quick fix. How much longer will he be in long pants anyway.
My kids always had short pants when they were young. My daughter too.
They are now 6 ft ( my daughter) and 6'4 n 5 my sons. Short pants are not the end of the world.

The only way I found when my son was bigger in the middle and the legs were too long was to make them. For three years I made back to school pants for him with huge hems. When the Christmas break was over I let the hems down and then turned them into shorts for the summer.

Perhaps you can find someone who makes kids clothes and go that route. I hear ya on how to clothe the kids. My daughter was the skinny one and I had to make her some clothes as well.

Good luck to you.
