My son spends a lot of time outdoors everyday so I put on a physical (as opposed to chemical) sunscreen on him daily. Even after a shower, there seems to be residue left behind on his skin and his hair where the sunscreen may have accidentally touched it. How do I get rid of this residue??
Soap and water by itself won't remove physical sunscreen.
The recommendation is to use an oil based cleaner and a scrub to help get it all off.

If you need some sort of oil to remove it, try coconut or olive oil, then wash up with soap and water after that.

I use an oil-based, followed by a water-based, cleanser.
I found that my Mary Kay eye makeup remover (mineral oil based) was very effective at removing this. Perhaps some eye makeup remover wipes would work well?
you need an oil-based cleanser. i love DHC's, but it ain't cheap!

This is a great question. We're going to Mexico next month and one of our activities requires us to use this kind of sunscreen. I'm not very excited about it due to the low SPF (Seriously, nothing above 50? I'm already banking on a bad burn.), reviews noting white pastiness and the problem you're experiencing getting it off. I may try getting the eye makeup remover wipes noted below. Hoping to see some other portable travel options for getting this stuff off. Thanks for posting this question!
What is the difference between "physical" ad "chemical" sunscreen? Can't you just wash either off with soap?
I bet a coconut oil/sugar scrub would work if you need oil based. You might not even need the sugar.
Maybe a tiny bit of Dawn dish soap mixed into his body wash would be able to cut through the sunscreen? Just make sure he moisturizes well afterward, because it will also cut through the natural oils on his skin.
You could also look up the specific product you use, and see if anyone has written a review addressing this issue.
