I have Twin 15 mo old girls and one of them has started taking her diaper off when I let them sleep in just that. I walked in yesterday and she has taken her diaper off and pooped in her bed. She threw some in the floor and she had it all over her. I don't know what else to do. I have to change her clothes several times a day if we leave clothes on and they like to go in just there diaper. Please help thank you.

What can I do next?

Zippers in the back. Try to find or have them made. Maybe a onesie--I don't know what size they are. If you could somehow stitch the bottom and then put on the onesie, just when they are napping, it might help. I used to nanny for twins (1 boy, 1 girl). The girl used to do the similar thing until I got wise to her tricks! It was cold outside, I gather, bc I put on a blanket sleeper backwards and she could not get it off. She eventually fell asleep!

Good luck!

My daughter did the same thing. I started using Easy ups from Pampers because they are like panties and have not velcro. When they mess in them you can easily tear the sides to get them off.
Also try putting pretty panties over the diapers. This makes it harder to take off and they like the idea of being more grown up.

There's always a cloth diaper, pinned on and covered with rubber pants for naptime. :o)

Seriously, this really works: put the diapers on backwards at night and duct tape them. I know it's crazy, but it works!

Sounds like she's ready to be potty trained. It's summer, let her run around without a diaper. I'm sure you've already told and showed her where the big girl potty is. Sit her down on it many, many times throughout the day and explain to her that it's where she has to go now. Tell her that it's where you go too. My daughter was completely potty trained by that age. Good luck.

When my daughters started doing that it was onsies for quite a while. They are cheep, and light for the summer. You can even get ones that are like tank tops on top. Good Luck!!!!!

you might want to try buying them underware and putting that over the diapers. My best friend does this with her now 2 year old and it has worked for her just fine! She also has been putting him in pullups - which are a little harder to tear apart and take off.

My daughter did this also. Try duct tape around the waist of her diaper. Obviously not on her skin just on the diaper. This was the only thing that worked for us!

Good Luck!

take charge now, Mom! Seriously, all of the responses have been good. & all of the ideas have been used with great success! I have one thought on this new skill: being able to take the diaper off does not always mean "ready to potty-train". This is a new motor skill which will LEAD to other skills & awareness. When your daughters begin grabbing or pulling at themselves (after filling the diaper), then you'll know they're on their way! The next step then would be awareness before the event. Good Luck on all fronts!

Put the diapers on backwards so the tapes are in the back and harder to get to. If that doesnt work, use masking tape and wrap it all the way around and finish in the back overlapping, easy for you to take off and harder for her.

Welcome to my house! My daughter is a world-class diaper-taker-offer...clean, dirty, wet, anything it comes off in seconds. So we've been through several strategies. Onesies didn't work, unfortunately, she just unbuttoned those and took off the diaper, same with pants over the diaper. What we are currently doing is either put her zip-up pjs on backwards (which works great if they are just a little big), or put the diaper on backwards, or put a cloth diaper cover on over her disposable diaper (she wears cloth diaps when not sleeping), the tighter the cover the better (like a wool or fleece kind of fitted pull up one works great, and can do double duty when she wets so much her diaper soaks through). If you are at all handy with the sewing machine you can make some covers from sweaters (lots of links on the internet), or just buy some cheap vinyl ones at the store (they might not keep her in as long, but will probably work for a little while), also some of those thicker thermal training pants or kids underwear (I think the boy style works better for them not being able to get them off over a diaper).
would work too. So far so good on these strategies! Good luck!

If the diapers fit this way, put them on backwards. Some work, some....not so much!

Do they make pull ups for their size? You could try using them at night.

I've had this happen too and its just a phase. When you walk into a poopy mess it's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. One of my children had taken her diaper off and played in it so it was all over her, the crib and the floor. First I put her in a bath and then I had to disinfect everything else. During naptime or bedtime I just started putting her in onesizes (Carter's makes them in bigger sizes too ~ try Carter's store at The Great Mall in Olathe because sometimes Babies R Us won't have the bigger sizes up to 24 months). I also tried to check more regularly for messy diapers and change them before they could get played in. It was hard to stay on top of it if they pooped during the night but I knew she was taking her diaper off because she was obviously uncomfortable. I also wouldn't leave her in her bed for long, once I heard her wake up I went to get her right away. Just get your camera and lysol wipes and soon this too shall pass.

Well; during the day when the girls are running around in only thier diapers you're there keeping an eye on them, and can catch her trying to take it off to stop her in the act. So then the only time it realy becomes a problem is at bed time. All you have to do is to put some shorts or bloomers over her diaper then so she can't get it off when you're not watching. Unfortunatly this is a problem that so many parents have had to, and are still going through. It's a pretty normal thing to have small children running around naked after they discover how to get that unconfortable thing off. Would you want to have to ware one of those bulky things. The only confort anyone can give you is the promise that it won't last forever. And maybe you should start using pull ups to see if it helps.

put a onesie tshirt on her during naptime and she probably won't get to her diaper that way to take it off or put the diaper on backwards.

OK, that sucks, pardon my language. My son did it when he was about 13 months old and my daughter has started recently too, she's 20 months now. My only recommendation is keep her clothed, in a onsie. It will probably generate more laundrey for you, but that pales in comparison of cleaning up poop. If I leave my daughter without clothes on for only a few minutes, the diaper is off and that fresh air on her bottom feels so good, she must just let it all go! (LOL)
By the way, my son's baby clothes never had stains on them, he was a messy baby but his clothes were fine. My daughter on the other hand doesn't have anything not stained. The good thing is when we are home, no one knows. WEe have a few stain free things that we were in public. Don't worry the only person that notices stains on kids' clothes, is their mom.
Good luck!

I had the same problem with my daughter when putting her in a nightgown. I'd come to get her in the morning and she had taken off her diaper. Now we often have her sleep in just a diaper since its gotten warmer. I started putting panties over her diaper or putting her in a onsie and that has done the trick.

I have 9 kids, and several of them have done this (although I've been spared the special brown fingerpainting). I just make sure they can't get to their diaper in my choice of clothes, or if they can, I literally tape them. Might sound funny, but it works, and I'd rather do that, than get that special fingerpainting job, lol.

my friend's almost-three-year-old does the same thing and she can't stop her, either...sadly i think it's just one of those joys of motherhood no one told us about! i would stick to onsies in favor of nothing at all. i know it's a hassle (my son is mostly naked or just in a t-shirt on these hot days) also, have you tried putting the diapers on backwards? might slow them down a bit! good luck :)

Okay, first it's great that she found this new skill, but you really need to nip it in the butt. Duct tape works wonders.

About them running around in a diaper. That's wonderful, except when there is company in the house and they are 4 years old. The little girl I sit did the same thing as a little one and her parents let her and thought it was cute. However, she is almost 6 now and she still wants to do it. They let her every now and then, however one time less than a year ago she wanted to do it with company (lots of company) in the house and they faught with her for over 30 minutes because she refused to put clothes on. Everyone was embarrassed for the parents when the ordeal was over. It was very eye opening for them and they now realize how wrong they were for letting her do this (she was in Kindergarten at the time). I tried to tell them and they didn't listen (I didn't let her do that at my house and I've had her since she was itty bitty)and now they understand what I was trying to get them to understand. Please don't make that same mistake for your own self. Stop it now. Good luck and God Bless.

Aren't twins fun? My twins are 3 1/2 years old and boys:) I also have 2 singletons, one older and one younger. When they start taking off their diaper it is time to start potty training. Don't worry if the other twin isn't interested my twins didn't start at the exact same time. But when the other twin sees her sis potty training she will become interested too. Be patient! It takes time. One of my twins pooped in his pants for almost 4 weeks before we were able to finally get him to go on the potty. Get some pull ups and use those for naps and night time and tell them they are their bedtime underwear. I didn't use the word diapers again. Good Luck!

I didn't get a chance to read the other advice, but here is something in case no one offered this. It has worked for several moms that I know. Take footed PJS and cut off the feet. Then put them on backwards so the zipper is in the back. Hope that helps. I had a friend with this problem with her 2 1/2 year old and it solved things right away!!

A friend recommended I try the Little Keeper Sleeper to solve this problem of taking off their diaper and clothes. I'm glad I did because this zippered back sleeper works GREAT. Their locking system and non-stretchable made sure my little Houdini could not get out and the long zipper in the back made changing a snap. This sleeper is a sanity saver. I got it from their website www.littlekeepersleeper.com

Well, clearly you can't let them poop all over the place. Put them in outfits they can't get themselves out of for awhile, even though they prefer to go more bare. After awhile you can try other, more easily removed clothes, and maybe you'll find they've outgrown the diaper thing.

Hey I have twins too!! :-D

I can relate to the poopy decorations story~
They both liked to strip off their diapers.
I used Duct tape-and it worked very effectively! I put their diapers on. Then I ran a line of duct tape over the diaper itself (don't touch skin..ouch!)like a belt (firm, but not to tight!!) and sealed the duct tape over itself in the back....warning...do it in the back...my kids figured out how to open the duct tape when I sealed it in the front.
Good Luck

I have soon to be three year old twin boys. We had the same problems with taking off diapers. I started putting onsies on them and after that didn't work, My husband and I resorted to putting the diapers on backwords. The last attempt was duck taping their diapers on. Eventually they quit taking them off. It's a pain but the duck taping worked the best. Good Luck!!
