Stress/lack of Sleep

Can a period of stress and lack of quality sleep alone make you feel like you got hit by a truck? My daughter had surgery on Monday (which was super stressful for me) and has been sleeping in our bed ever since and even though I am going to bed at a decent hour I know that I am waking up at times during the night any time she makes a peep because the recovery period is 2 weeks. I know that stress and lack of sleep can deplete the immune system so I thought maybe I was coming down with something, but I have felt the same for 4 days, not getting any better or any worse... just body aches, head ache, blah feeling and tired...basically like I rode roller coasters all day and then drank 3 margaritas and this is the after effects lol. I laid down with my youngest today and fell asleep for 2 hours!

What can I do next?

Yep! You are worn out. It almost sounds like it does when you have a newborn. You'll get better, but try having someone else sleep with her so that you can get some uninterrupted sleep!

Yeah, no sleep and a stressed out body wears down - you need to have someone come over and cover for you while you SLEEP!

It is called sleep deprivation and the combined stress you have had.
Read about it online.
It causes tons of problems.
Just make sure, that if/when driving, you do not fall asleep at the wheel. I read an article about people doing this, in Reader's Digest.

Or, maybe you are coming down with a cold?

One option might be: to have your daughter on a mattress on the floor of your room...that way you are still near her and keep an eye out for her, but you'd get a better sleep, because she is not IN your bed.
Or, you let her sleep in your bed for now, and then you sleep on the floor mattress. But in the same room.

Extreme stress is enough to wear you down and then when you add in sleep deprivation, BAM, you've been hit by a truck! Everyone has different thresholds on what they can mentally and physically deal with. Sleep is a restorative period for us in many ways and if you're not getting it, you'll have a harder time dealing with the stress.

This is a great time to ask a friend or family member to come over so you can nap! Maybe you can ask them to bring a kids movie to keep the kids quiet. Put in some ear plugs and tell yourself over and over, this is time to sleep. You may even want to take one Benadryl before so you're nice and drowsy for a few hours. You're finding out that giving so much of yourself leaves you in a real pickle :)

Yes, not to complain, but I have 5 kids and run an in-home daycare 6 days of the week, pretty much whatever hours parents need. Sometimes as early as 4am drop off and as late as 3:30 am pick up... no I am not kidding. I clean my house and have severe OCD, so sometimes I don't go to bed at all and when I do it's (on a good night) 6 hours but usually more like 3 or 4, and not ever solid, cuz my kids like to rotate who wakes up at which hour to ask mom for water, to go potty, or be held. YES.... some days I feel as if I got run over by a semi and actually wonder... lol... This is my life, I have created it, and I love it!!! However... sometimes it is overwhelming, and if I get stressed or start to get a cold, I feel like it just immediately takes over and completely wipes me out!!! My husband teases me, because he says the second your head hits the pillow you're snoring but the second one of the kids makes a noise, opens their door, or takes one step on hardwood floors towards our bedroom, I'm up.... I have recently been on a diet, and have lost 22 pounds, I feel AH-MAZING, and have been getting injections a couple of times a week, (of B6 & B12).... IT DOES WORK!!!! I litterally feel more clear headed, less stressed, and they also give me (vitamin C) that has helped immune system for sure. Try any weight loss clinic in your area, or some Henry's/Sprouts do them on a certain day of the week. But seriously... no cafffeine, no sugar, no starches, no carbs... lots of fruit veggies and TONS of protein... this will all help, balance your diet, which will in turn give you overall, WAAAAYYY more energy! Good Luck, sorry I rambled... hope it helps someone!!!
