I was wondering if it was possible to pump just a few minutes to relieve the pressure from my engorged breast. I have stop breastfeeding going on two weeks, I have had a rough time getting through this and still full as a tick.. I didnt know if it would hurt to pump to just relieve the pain. Thanks A.

What can I do next?

My daughter will be 1 next week and shes slowing down alot! She nurses before bedtime and before naps and I do get a little full, but I just pump a little just enough to releive the pressure and i havent had an increase in milk or anything so it would probably be okay. Ive heard something about cabbage leaves helping to dry up the milk, try typing it in the search box on here and maybe that would seed up the drying up! Good luck!

You could do that. NOt sure how you weaned and stopped but usually you start by taking away a feeding at a time until you are down to one feeding and then stop when you are ready. So I would think that pumping just once a day would do the same thing. It all depends how you weaned, if you were down to once a day, just pump that once a day. Use warm washcloths on yourself if they hurt, it may help soothe them.

You can do that or just do it manually in the shower. I was totally engorged for a few days after I weaned my daughter, but finally just gritted my teeth and put pressure on my breasts in the shower, squirted the milk out and felt fine from then on. Good luck!

I had to pump a few minutes and gradually reduce the number of minutes. Take ibuprofen and put cold cabbage leaves in your bra, they contain a natural enzyme that dries up the milk. You can also use a cold or ice pack. I sympathize with you. I hope you feel better soon. Happy Mother's Day.

A., Probably not the best idea to pump, as that stimulates the breasts and can make the milk production continue. Try using palin old green cabbage leaves on your breasts to help dry up the milk. I know it might sound weird, but it really works! Put the head of cabbage in the fridge (the coolness of the leaves soothes), take one big leaf of cabbage to cover each breast, put it directly on the breast inside your bra, change the leaves when they get wilted. I recommend organic cabbage, chemical-free. Usually the relief is almost immediate, but takes 3 or 4 days to get the breasts less engorged. Hope this helps.

The more you stimulate your breasts, the more milk you'll make. However, drastic weaning can lead to not only engorgement but also clogged ducts and infection, so if you need to pump or hand-express the milk to relieve some of the pressure, it may help to avert a greater problem. If the cabbage-leaves trick several people noted below doesn't give enough relief, you may need to hand-express some milk, but hopefully that will be enough.

the more they are stimulated the more you will keep producing. you need to wean the baby off and not just stop that will help a TON. also get a head of cabbage put it in the freezer pull off a leaf and stick it in your bra sounds weird but its a life saver!
