Has anyone tried using a steam mop on their floors and can anyone recommend a good one? I've seen them advertised but don't know if they really work like the commercials say they do. Is it safe to use on wood laminate (Pergo) floor? Thanks for your help!

I have a steam mop & Pergo floors...Out of all the floor cleaning products I've tried, the steam mop was by far the best in my opinion. Great results, easy & quick. However, I was told by a Pergo salesperson that using it would not only ruin the floors, but actually could void our warranty on the floors. So I only use it occasionally, and follow behind the wet mop with a dry one to get the water up as quickly as possible.

i've tried 2 different steam mops and they are ok on just cleaning surface dirt...ie they don't get the tougher spots very well. You can use any cleaning agent that doesn't contain soap and achieve good results. I use very little lemon pinesol or mr. clean in my water to clean my laminate floors. I also have a mop head that uses washable microfiber pads that scrubs well and also leave the floor pretty dry after cleaning.

My mom has 2,000 square feet of hardwoods, and she got a steam mop. She can now clean the floors in the whole house in about 2 hours. She used to only be able to clean one room at a time especially with my toddler, her pre-teen, and a puppy running around all day. Ha!

She does say that it is not as clean as mopping it, but it is faster. Then she can just spot-mop the bad places.

Overall, she is glad she bought it. She got it at Kohl's for less than $100.

Not sure how it would do on laminate.

My husband is a manager for Bed Bath and Beyond and he is sold enough that he wants to get one for the house. He did say the biggest reason they come back to the store is because people dont follow the directions. It calls for distilled water, and it means it. All the "junk" in regular water keeps it from working at its best, or so he says.

I've never used a steam mop and would be cautious about using one on a laminate floor. We did have really good results using pledge and a terry cloth duster on our floor. Be careful though, it can make it slippery for a few days, but it shines! For regular cleaning, we found that if we used less products on the floor and just used a damp mop, it tended to look better. Just our experience.

I do not know if they are safe to use on your wood floors, but I will tell you that I have 900 square feet of ceramic tile in my house and I use the Bissell Steam mop... LOVE it!!! I can get stuck on sticky stuff off the floor in NO TIME!! The floors look amazing with it and I love that I know it is clean after I use it. I can get the floors swept and mopped in 30 minutes! I also love that you was the terry covers and start anew cleaning ~ comes with two... I ordered two more to have just in case the floor gets really dirty and need more than 2 during a cleaning... ONLY happened once!
love mine!

I bought the Shark from Target. I've seen it at Kohls as well and with their discounts you may get a better deal. I have wood floors and I was worried that it would ruin them. It works great though. It is much cleaner and sanitized. It takes work to push it on the wood but it doesn't overwet it and you are able to walk on it right after you mop. It moves easier on my bathroom tile. I use it for the whole house and I love it. I get a cleaner house in much less time.
