Assuming you want it pronounced Eh-lease - i.e. a short e sound, I'd start it with an E rather than an A. I like Elise the best for spelling, and I'd agree Alyse is going to be pronounced Alice about half the time.

Elise is the most common spelling, and I tend to be annoyed by all the crazy "new" ways parents spell their kids names.

The name is Elise, it's spelled E-l-i-s-e, why mess with it? You not thinking about Gulia, Julya, Jewelia, Gewleeya are you?

Elise. The other two are just made up and look like you can't spell.

Alyse can be mispronounced as "Alice"

Both Elyse and Elise are great!

With an A it would be pronounced differently, A-lease rather than E-lease. Either E spelling is fine.

I wouldn't really think the "A" spelling was an option if you want the name to be Elise. In my mind that is a totally different name, much closer to Alice.

Anyway, I think the spelling with the "I" looks nicer with Julia, because it echoes the vowel pattern.

Seriously though, it's what ever you want... and it's her middle name, so most people will never see it.

Elise is best, followed by Elyse. Because Julia ends in "a," you shouldn't start the middle name with the letter A as well.

Well, Alyse is a spelling of Alice so I think it would get mistaken for Alice.

I'm also a fan of spelling names using the rules of phonetics since names are held to the same standards as grammar. I would go with Julia Elise because it looks the prettiest and most educated.

Elise. I think adding the y in is unnecessary.

My daughter's name is Quinn Eliesse. This may be weird, but I like the 'Eliesse' spelling because I didn't want her first and middle names to have the same number of letters. I also like that the double 's' feminizes her name a little since 'Quinn' can go either way. Of course, Julia is a very feminine name already. Just another suggestion...

Elise. The other two look a bit made up. Besides, the i in Elise goes better with the i in Julia (rather than a y).

I like "Elyse" - but no matter what spelling you go with there's always going to be someone mispronouncing it!!

Also, have you gone over the letters to make sure it's not going to spell something silly/bad - if your last name starts with an "F" - do you want her to have JAF or JEF as her initials? Just something someone told me to watch out for when I was naming my children. Either of those combinations isn't bad but I've seen some parents not realize the initials can cause the kid heartache. Like if your last name started with an "M" - trust me if the kids get wind of her initials being JAM - she'll be in for teasing!! Just a thought!!!

Good luck!!

Julia is a traditional name and spelling, so it looks best with the traditional spelling of Elise.

Alyse is an entirely different name, an alternate of Alice. It is pronounced with an AL, not an EL.

I have a friend named Alyse and she complains all the time about the spelling. She constantly has to correct and re-spell it. For what it is worth, she would have preferred Elise :)

Alyse is pronounced Alice--and she will be correcting people all her life if you choose that spelling.

She will also be correcting the spelling a lot if you go with Elyse. Trust me, that gets very tiring.

I think that Julia Elise is a beautiful name. Very classy. Beautiful for both a little girl and a grown woman (because all little ones do eventually grow up). :-) Elise has always been one of my very favorite girl names. We didn't use it because our last name starts with an "S" and the sounds ran together and were a problem. But I love to hear of other using the name.

Elise or Elyse - I don't care for the A version for some reason.

It's very common to make up new spellings for names today.
