I know it is a little early but I was at Walmart today to pick up some tissues for my poor little girly who has a raging cold and I noticed that they had the Halloween costumes on display. What are your kids (or you) dressing up as?
I'm actually making (or going to try) my girls' costumes this year. The older one is going to be a pumpkin. The younger one is going to be a ladybug. But instead of making the classic costumes I am making a fluffy orange tulle dress to which I am going to attach a black felt jack-o-lantern face and a fluffy red tulle dress to which I am going to attach black felt dots. I'm excited. I think they are going to be cute!
My son is going as batman and I'm making my baby's Harley Quinn costume (her name is actully Harlee Quinn) I'm going to make a red and black tutu, and cover a onesie in red and black sequins :)
I buy the costumes after Halloween when they are clearing them out for $5 each. I bought a few last year, and I can't even remember what they are, except they were scary ones.
My 4 year old son really wants to be Batman. So of course I decided that my 7 month old son must be Robin! I can't wait!!! :0)
I'm going to Rocky Horror so my costume will be put together from items in my lingerie drawer
My little girl is going as an astronaut and my big girl is going as a sock-hopper.
5 year old daughter wants to be a Unicorn - so I asked her "Unicorn or person riding a unicorn" since those are two different costumes. Person riding a unicorn is what she chose. Found one for $15 in LTD!
Son wants to be Spiderman riding on a horse. Guess what else I found in LTD? The same costume as the Unicorn only with a horse! And he got a Spiderman mask for his birthday and we have a long sleeved Spiderman pajama top (complete with webbing connecting his arms to the shirt). So for both I will be spending $40 on costumes which includes shipping. Excited!! I may be ordering these soon!
The baby will be a Tiger (her older brother's costume, which she will wear for 15 minute) and then change into a really cute Halloween sleeper.
My big boy will, of course, be Batman.
This sounds so very cute! I think it's great to make costumes. I made all the costumes my kids ever wore, it was all part of halloween. They still remember it. My adult daughter will not part with even one of them.
My DIL makes her kids theirs too and they always turn out so cute and very creative. She loves Halloween too. The kids love seeing mama making and doing.
Of course this doesn't take away from any bought costume out there. But I do like seeing some effort put into it even if it's bought, ya know, like make-up and other added features.
My granddaughter is going as Rapunzel this year, she loves her. No one else has decided yet.
I always make my kids costumes. Last year my daughter was a witch and my son was Hiccup. This year he'll be Link(from Zelda) and my daughter will be a cat. I've already wrote down some ideas for how to make them. I just need to take some measurements and get started.

We got a Native American Dance costume at the studio. My granddaughter wanted it. As for my grandson, I have no idea yet.
I took my 3 1/2 year old to Hobby Lobby and had her pick what costume she wanted from the pattern catalog. She chose a ladybug costume. As it so happens, the pattern she picked has to be the easiest pattern I've ever seen, with actually very little sewing. Works for me! I'm about halfway done with it without putting a whole lot of attention to it.
our daughter will only be 3months old by halloween.. i had myself convinced i wasnt buying a full-on costume because it would be kind of a waste, shes not going trick or treating so shed be in it for like an hour, take a few pictures and take it off.. i had decided that i was going to buy this onsie i saw at babies r us.. you know the longsleeved kind with the feet in the bottom.. it was orange n black striped n it had a black hat with cat eyes n little ears on it.. i just had to get up there to go buy it .. well my fiance n i went to costo a few days ago and they had baby n toddler costumes on sale for 12$.. i couldnt help myself.. i found a great one.. its a little giraffe.. its a little zip up fleece longsleeved onsie with the feet, it has a tail and the hood has a giraffe face and little ears... so yeah its a costume but its something she can wear all day and not be uncomfortable in ... im so0 excited
We are considering an elephant costume since our 21 month old son loves all things elephant, especially his version of their sound. Neither my husband nor I are convinced he will tolerate it for very long, though. I might just fall back and make him a bag of groceries costume. It won't involve anything on his head and he has plush food items I can temporarily sew to a handmade brown felt grocery bag. Cushy, hat free, simple. We'll see. I am looking forward to seeing all the kids in their costumes. So cute and carefree.
My 2 year old is obsessed with all things Batman (He's only ever seen 1 cartoon, and we DVR the 60s TV version on Saturdays, and he's watched a friend play Lego Batman).....it's the way we F I N A L L Y potty trained him: with Batman underwear. He doesn't want to get Batman underwear dirty! We've got a cape, mask, shirt, and pants....I just need to get or make a utility belt and all will be well.
My 5 year old is going as a ninja this year, since he's all about his Kung Fu and has been learning about ninjas lately.
He asked me to be the tooth fairy and for daddy to be a tree "cuz he's tall". I'm thinking maybe one of those trees from Lord of the Rings: an Ent.
My 8 y/o is going as the Grim Reaper and my 4 y/o is The Dark Knight ~ costumes are ready!
