Looks like you have a ton of responces already but I do also recommend spending a little extra on the Spanx they are worth it and do last a LONG time.
I had a lot of great responses in regards to the spray on tans that I thought I would ask one more question. Has anyone ever used Spanx and if so, does it work wonders? Or is there somethinge else that works just as well as Spanx but is less expensive?
Thanks!

I love my Spanx camisole - sucked me right in for my oldest son's 1st communion last year!
Jensen's in Anoka has Spanx.
I have to admit, I've even stuck it on under T's once in a while when I'm feeling 'puffy'!
I have used the Assets brand of tights from target, I liked those too and they wore well.
Spanx are great. I wear them to work 3 or 4 days a week. I'm sure they're different for everyone but for me they just help make a nice line with no bulges or panty lines.
The Assets line at Target is by the same woman who designed Spanx. Assets are about half the price and I think they work just as well but the fabric isn't as nice so maybe they aren't as effective for some shapes. Also the Assets line doesn't have the part in the crotch for using the bathroom that Spanx have. I don't like the part so I guess I prefer Assets.
I have tried the target brand of spanx and they started to fall apart fast they did work and made me feel better about how I looked in things, If I were to buy anything like it again I would buy spanx
The Spanx brand is great! They really hide things well, makes you slimmer. And it doesn't show from the outside. I think their worth the money. They do last.
Spanx are awesome! I also have the Assets from Target, which do work but aren't as good as the real deal. I would say if you're looking for something for a special occasion splurge on the Spanx. If you take care of them they'll last for a long time. Mine have even gone through washer and dryer on occasion and they're still fine. If you want to get several pairs for more everyday wear, I'd check out the Assets.
I use the Slim Cognito Seamless Mid-Thigh Bodysuit and LOVE it!!! It is spendy, but it is also comfortable, wears well and has not stretched out yet. It will NOT make you go down a size (unless you're almost there already), but it smooths everything out (I have a flabby belly and leftover pregnancy rolls after 2 kids) and makes everything else fit better and look nicer. I have tried other kinds of body shapers and nothing compares. It's totally worth the price.
I recommend trying one on before you buy. I am a size 10/12 and had to buy a small.

I tried the Hanes version and wasn't really happy with them.
You can really tell where they stop.
I've used Spanx and they were great, but make sure you don't get them too small. Use the size charts and err on the side of bigger.
The maker of Spanx has a product called Assets (funny, huh?) at Target. Almost as good, definitely cheaper.
R.- I may be in the minority, but I actually do not like my Spanx. I feel like they mush my body into a flattened version of my shape, and push my fleshier areas into strange contortions. They are uncomfortable for me....I wore them to a wedding, and took them off almost immediately. They may be worth a try for you--just save the receipt!
I have 3 pairs of Spanx and they are FABULOUS!! I have never been a small girl and after having my son (via c-section) I have a "flabby" belly. I wear them and it is amazing how they pull everything into place! I actually went down 2 dress sizes wearing them for my brother-in-laws wedding! I highly suggest shopping for them on Ebay, they have size charts and are almost $40 cheaper than buying in a store! Good luck!!
Try the Target brand ASSETS!!! Made by the same gal...LOVE THEM!! I have never tried Spanx (too expensive) personally so I don't have anything to compare to really. But I just LOVE my ASSETS!!! Truly a blessing!
Good luck!

Say, I really like spanx. But if you have any upper fatback (I do not know any other way to put it, sorry), then the 'up to the ribs' spanx isn't going to work that well (unless you get creative). HOWEVER, get yourself a spanx bra no matter what because it is worth the $60.
I hated my spanx. I got them and plunked down the 45 dollars for them and I thought they did no better than a nice pair of tights. You know the kind you go to dillards or von maur for and pay 20 dollars. No difference whatsoever. I even showed Dh and he agreed that they didn't make any differnce. I would never buy them again. I found them to be a big fat hype that was really a waste of money. Sure they are better than the kind of tights you get at Wal-mart and barely better than the 10 dollar ones you get a target. For that matter hubby couldn't see a difference in appearance between the 10 dollar target ones and the spanx. I just thought they pulled a little less. With that said I haven't bought them in a year and maybe they made some leap and bounds I haven't heard about but that was my honest experience.
I also tried the tank top looking thing this year for use with my Halloween costume. Again I found one at Target (I think it was playtex brand) and it worked just as well as the spanx top for a fourth of the price.
So I'd say don't waste your money. I know if you go to Torrid, they usually have that store at malls, you can try them on there so you can see what you think. That is what I'd recommend. Plus sometimes they have them on clearance and you can get them for half the usual price.
Bear in mind I was a size 18 when I first tried them. I've now gone all the way down to an 8 and every size inbetween I still haven't liked them. I don't even feel like they hold my lose skin in now.
I absolutely recommend the spanx! I used one after I had my baby and it made me feel tons better, plus I really think it helped to flatten my tummy faster. I really noticed a difference after I started wearing it. I would splurge and get a Spanx.
I have tried many brands of shapewear over the years, and Spanx is the only one I would buy again. I have a roll of fat on my upper abdomen (LOL) and Spanx "Higher Power" is the only thing shapewear I've found that works for this. The panty goes all the way up your torso, and you tuck the waistband up under your bra.
One VERY IMPORTANT tip with Spanx: If you are between sizes, or right on the cut-off for a size, go up to the larger size. I absolutely hated Spanx until I had a sales clerk tell me this. Having the right size makes a world of difference. Many women think that if they squeeze into too-small shapewear it will provide added support, but this is not the case!
Also, I didn't check where you live, but if you're in MN, out at the Mall of America, Nordstrom's outlet store "The Rack" almost always had discounted Spanx for sale. You can also scope eBay; they do show up on there brand new.
Macy's and Nordstrom both have other brands of similar garments. I think they are worthwhile if you have clothes that are clingy or snug-fitting. Try some on-- some are definitely more comfortable than others-- you don't want to walk around feeling extremely uncomfortable for a few hours or more!
I don't have very many, but they are worth the $$$. I haven't tried any other brands either.
spanx makes a less expensive brand that you can buy at target for about half of what the originals are. the name is something assets or assets something.anyway they are buy the socks and unders. i like them and have worn them a lot.
