Good luck!! But keep the butter and oil on hand it is a great way to lube there body parts up and slide them out...
My 10 month old has chubby legs. He keeps getting them stuck in the slots of his crib. This has happens about 3 times now and today we almost had to break the slot to get his leg out. A bumper rail has not helped because he just pushes it down anyway. I was wondering if this has happend to anyone else and what you did about it?
Thank you to everyone for all your responses. I went to toys r us and got a mesh crib bumper and we LOVE it. It works very well and now his legs don't get stuck anymore!!!

See if you can fold a sheet lengthwise, into a long thick piece, then thread the sheet in and out of the bars. You can safety pin it to the outside of itself.
sorry i'm late! i just wanted to let anyone know if this does happen to you, try some olive oil! this happened to my daughter, and her leg was STUCK! the olive oil slipped it right out! (and Bertolli sent me a coupon for more!)
obviously, you want to try and make sure it doesn't happen to begin with, but if you ever find yourself in that situation, hope this helps!

Try getting a crib tent. I've gone through two of them. One I ordered from either One Step Ahead or Right Start and the other I bought at Babies R Us. They are meant to keep babies/toddlers that are still sleeping in a crib from climbing out. However, they are made of durable mesh and it encloses the whole crib. You take the mattress out to put it on so that it goes on the inside of the crib slats. I'm not explaining it well but you'll understand when you see it!
Babies R Us sells a Mesh Bumper that keeps legs and other things inside the crib. I will post a link but if it doesn't work you can just search on their site for mesh bumper and it comes right up.
Oooooo sounds like it is time for some other kind of bed. He can't help how his legs are and you won't have any peace with him in that room alone anymore. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and talk to someone and see if they have any ideas of how to fix that problem. You might try looking up on the internet and get the number of the company that made the bed and tell them what is happening and see if they have anything that can prevent that or what they suggest.
I hope you get some better ideas from this. Sorry I couldn't help more.
Yes,I know what you mean. My son was 7 1/2 months when he started walking.
So, he would wake up at night an try to climb out of the crib and hit the floor with a loud boom. He also was very chubby. So, our Pediatrition had us take the crib donw and put the mattress on the floor. Problem was solved. You may want to consider putting the mattress on the floor for him, so that his litttle legs don't get stuck.
A little about me: Stay at home mom/business owner of 4 adult childrens and a grandson we adopted who is 5.
You need to buy the cozy crib tent 2; but not 1. It is about 60 dollars but worth every penny. One of my friends got investigated by child services because her daughter's elbow swelled one night and she couldn't explain why. She thinks she stuck it through the crib, but they investigated it anyway. When that happened, I bought one for my 9 month old and then used it on my next baby. I use them until I move them from the crib; it will put your mind at ease and they won't be able to climb out later either.
Instead of investing in a new bed while he is so young,I would invest in a really good Pack n Play. My sister had a really large one made for twins. It was awesome! I don't know if you can get those any longer. They may be special order, but there is a variety of regular sized ones (I don't recommend the compact small ones). I used them for both my girls. I let them sleep in their crib at night and nap during the day, but the Pack n Play was their fun time area. I used a monitor so I was in their room as soon as they woke and they came right out of their crib. I don't ever think a crib is a place to keep a baby to play for long periods of time. Especially unsupervised. As safe as they seem to be, there is always "something" that can happen when you aren't watching.
I even put the Pack n Play outside on the deck with an umbrella over it so we could all enjoy being outside. Pack n Plays are safe and your baby can play with toys in it and not get stuck. We also used it as a travel crib since they fold up and set up easy. Another great activity for an active baby is a sit in walker/activity center. I had the Winnie the Pooh one and my girls loved to sit and watch tv or play with the toys on it or have a snack. The seat supports their weight until they begin to get stronger legs, then they scoot all over in it and is very good exercise.
Hope the info is helpful.
This actually happened to my chubby legged boy when he was 10 months old too. We had to saw off one of the slats to get him out :( So we bought a new crib, most beds have about the same spacing in between the slats. However, I found one that was a half inch smaller. It is so scary when that happens. It bruised and swelled my baby's leg a lot. The crib tent sounds like a good idea. If our crib hadn'e been destroyed, I would have tried that.
Good luck,

If you go to One Step Ahead's website, you will find a crib netting that velcro's on all four sides, in lieu of the bumpers. We used it on our oldest daughter and LOVED it........machine washable and keeps the arms and legs IN the crib!!!! I want to say it was somewhere between 30-40 dollars and WELL WORTH IT! Good luck!
Get the crib tent. His legs will not get out! Babies R Us sells them, just ask. It is mesh and also keeps the child in the crib. Mine would climb out in a heartbeat. I love the tent. Below is the link:

When i had my second child, my first would climb into the crib with him; scared me to death. I bought a crib tent and it came with a mesh liner for the crib. Worked wonders. You can find one with the mesh liner at Babies R Us or go to Onestepahead.com; you can find a mesh crib liner by itself or with the crib tent. The mesh liner attaches around the outside of the crib with velcro, prevents your lil guy from putting his legs through the slats. The crib tent runs $80; don't know about just the liner.
My advice would be to put him in a bed with railings and on the floor.A mattress on the floor works or those child beds that are low to the floor. My oldest was in his own bed at that age..good luck..

Hi A.
I had the exact same problem when my son was 9 mths old and it kept waking him up - he also started to sit up and could not lay back down, so would wake screaming in the night!! I am from New Zealand and remembered some friends there talking about a product that was brilliant for this problem. I bought one online (they are expensive, but very helpful!) and we have had no problems since. he is now 16 mths old and sleeps through every night unless he is teething!
It is a safeTsleep. I think you can find it on safeTsleep.com. It is a large fabric wrap that goes around the whole crib matress (or bed mattress when he goes into a bed) and it has a sewn on extra strip of fabric which velcros securely around your child's belly so they can have their arms and legs free and turn over etc. but not sit up or move around the bed! I would say you could borrow mine to try it, but I am not sure how I would survive without it right now!!! Here's to active boys!!!!
hope that helps

My daughter did the same thing. We put her in a twin bed with a canvas railing. By that age she was able to crawl in and out of it without getting hurt. Make sure you put the opening to get out at the foot of the bed so that they can't roll out.
Oh wow. We are in the exact same situation. My 10 month old is chubby as well and her legs keep getting caught. I'm afraid she will really hurt herself. We had to take down the bumper pads at 5 mos. because she kept getting her head stuck underneath.
My oldest son did it all the time. We just started letting him spend less time in his crib, be cause he only did it when he was left to entertain himself for a few minutes after he woke up in the morning. I just started going to get him as soon as I heard him and letting him play in his room. There are tents and mesh bumpers, there is also the option if getting the piano crib toys that tie to side of the crib. He will be more likely to play with it as opposed to just trying to shove it out of the way, and it covers a lot more of the side. He can have musical crib walls!
