Something Going Around? - Prairie Village,KS

Hey mamas!

Late last week my husband said he didn't feel well and that it was like he had really bad gas for a really long time. He tried a pepto and rest and eventually I think most of it went away. Last night, I started to experience the same thing. It's like there's a fire in my chest and abdomen that flares up all of a sudden, kind of like gas but still kind of different. Mine started when I was already having a panic attack so you can imagine how having spikey chest pains during something that already feels like a heart attack worked to calm the panic. No sleep for me!

Today, our 4 year old is making a terrible face, grabbing his stomach and saying it hurts. This comes in waves where he is fine for an hour, then feels pain again. He was miserable at a birthday party today (we left early of course!) but is currently bouncing around his room, laughing and playing. We think he must have what I still have/DH had.

With all three of us having similar symptoms in just a few days, we assume it's a bug of some sort. Has anyone heard of something like this going around this season? And if so, other than drinking more water and resting a bit, is there anything else to take/try?

What can I do next?

Sounds like a bug.

Water is good, also foods that are easy to digest - low fat, no grease - I tend to stick to oatmeal, cream of wheat, toast, etc. when I get a gastrointestinal bug.

And don't share cups and wash, wash hands etc. so you all don't spread it back around.

Gas-X, or any kind of simethicone, medication will help alleviate the gassy symptoms. Pepto and Immodium just bind you up for days, so stay away from those. Maybe take some ibuprofen for the cramping.

Feel better soon!

Have you considered you all ate the same thing and it is effecting you all?

Oh and greasy foods actually help nutralize the vomit feeling - ever wonder why you crave fries when you are drunk? It is the greasy foods your body wants to help nutralize the acids and junk! My doc swears by it - used to tell me that when I went out drinking to make sure to stop and get greasy food on my way home, eat up take two advil or tylenol drink a full 8 oz glass of water and go to bed wake up no hang over WORKS! Said greasy food also works with regular vomiting too (morning sickness).

I had similar symptoms this past week for about 3 days. The week before last my son was throwing up and having diarrhea so I figure it was a minor version of what he had.

We all had it too weekend before last. Lady I work with got it, had about 5hours of throwing up and diarrhea, then crampy and gassy for another day or 2. I just had the gas and cramps for a day and a half, as did my son who never complained but just farted a lot (although they find that funny!). Her daughter threw up twice too. Then another coworker got it and just had diarrhea and gas. So pretty sure it's a bug. Glad you're all recovered!

Its been a while, but over the summer I had a nasty bug too. I didn't throw up and never really felt like it but my stomach cramped so bad it felt like labor! It would double me over. I tried some otc gas meds but it really didn't help either. It lasted 3 days and I was just about to go to the er it was that bad. Then as quick as it came, it was gone. So weird! I just drank a lot of water so I wouldn't get dehydrated and rode it out. If your concerned or it lasts more than a few fays, time for the doc! Hope y'all feel better!

A bug just like that went around our area a few months back. Lasted about 24-48 hours a person and it was brutal, but there was lots of vomiting too. It affected about 8 families we know.
