Ammonia and a scrubber sponge will get rid of it. Soap scum is mostly grease and Ammonia is the best thing hands down for greasy dirt. Open a window while you use it.
Does anyone out there have good experience with a product that will remove soap scum from shower glass? I've tried multiple OTC products and none of them have worked with success. I even tried using Windex on it's own after cleaning the shower glass but it's not spotless like I've seen in other people's homes. Can anyone provide comment on what you've had successwith. Much appreciated !!!

My girlfriend cleans homes for a living. She swears by Mr Magic Erasers (even the generic ones) on soap scum.
At one time she also had recommended the Dobie sponge and Comet bathroom (spray) cleaner. I still use those.
I know there was one job she did that the soap scum was so built up that nothing else worked but a kitchen spatula.
Not that she is an 'expert' but she told me that she once read an article stating that ivory, irish spring, etc are the worst soaps for you. If that is on your shower imagine the residue on your skin. She claims that the body washes are better for you.
This is what I've been told...
I'm a bar keepers friend fan. Works great.
Liquid Bar Keepers Friend. Bottle goes for about $3 at home depot. You can buy the dry powder cheaper, but the liquid stuff works better on vertical surfaces. Squirt some on the soft side of a sponge and rub it all over the glass. Let it sit for about five minutes, then rinse it all off. Some of the harder hit areas, I flip the sponge over and scrub with the green side with no determent to the glass. Elbow grease is required for best results of course.
Works better than CLR.
After you get the shower door free of spots, give it a coat of Rain-x (you can find it at most automotive stores). The water will slick right off the glass like water off a duck's back and you won't have to worry about it drying and leaving behind residue. You'll have to give it a fresh coat every so often because it doesn't last forever, but this is my tried and true method of keeping my glass shower doors spot free.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
I haven't tried this on the glass shower doors, but had a really nasty scum on the shower walls and floor. I applied a light paste of baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide and scrubbed it with a mesh sponge. Left that on for several hours, then rinsed with hot water. It worked wonders on the shower walls, so I'm thinking it might also work on the glass doors.
I have a glass shower and I've kept it clean after daily use since we built this house 12 yrs ago.
Major rule #1... ALWAYS, squeegee and towel down the glass when finished in the shower. This helps a LOT.
The lady that comes to my house, swears by the Comet spray (green top, white bottle)
Magic Erasers to help.
This one requires a LOT of sweat equity but lasts a long time. I use marine polish for boats (buy it at Target, less than $10 a bottle). About twice a year, sometimes once, depending on how motivated I am, use this polish on the glass then buff dry. Once you are all buffed dry... when the shower runs, it beads on the glass, much like RainX. It is a chore though.
I do believe the main thing we do that keeps the scum away is the squeegee and towel dry after each shower.
Magic Erasers work the best in my opinion.
I like Scrub Free too when I am out of the Erasers.
I agree with the others ..... Mr Clean Magic Erasers!!
Hi R.,
Looks like we're from the same area. I lived in Vallejo for many years; now I'm over the bridge in San Pablo but I pass through every day on my way to Fairfield!
Anyway, I digress. I use Mr Clean Magic Erasers for the bathroom. They work great on the glass shower doors!
Magic Eraser, or store brand version of it. Works like a charm.
Thank you to all the mamas/members that have responded. I can't wait to try some of these remedies and hopefully it will come in time for our party on Saturday. I'd hate for my guests to see what looks like an uncleanly shower because it's not. I clean it daily but the soap scum always beat me.
Scrubbing Bubbles worked great for me on a tub that had thickened soap scum and looked like it had not been scrubbed in years. I coated it thick with Scrubbing Bubbles foam spray and let it sit for a few minutes and come back expecting to have to scrub to remove that disgusting mess, but the majority just wiped of easy with little or no scrubbing. I have never used a product that removed soap scum without at least a little elbow grease. Previously I have used Scrub Free with Bleach but always still had to scrub.
Baking soda and vinegar will make it shine
