Snoring Toddler

My daughter turned two in December. She has snored since birth! She also always sounds rattly when breathing. I was worried about asthma when she was littler but they always said that her lungs were fine, that she likely had a floppy or loose palate. They said it should tighten up by the time she's three, but sometimes she snores so loud I worry! Anyone been through this? Had it improve? Or has anyone's toddler had the surgery they mentioned for tightening the palate? That scares me, but I don't know what complications exist if you don't do it either.

What can I do next?

My son, from birth, snored louder than my husband. We could hear him through the wall next door. Also, he had a deep voice (for a baby) and mumbled when he talk. When he was 2 he was referred to an ENT who determined his tonsils were way too big and they had to be removed. He hasn't snored since. Ask your pediatrician to check her tonsils. Best of luck!

I agree with Kymberly. Our youngest son snored since birth and I just thought that was normal for him. Once he started K, he missed a lot of school due to tonsillitis and strep throat. The Pedi referred us to a wonderful ENT who removed the tonsils and adenoids. Our son rested a lot the day of the surgery and was his normal self again the next day. He went from missing 14 days of school that year to only missing 2 days the next year. He now soundly, and quietly, sleeps through the night too. I highly recommend that you take your daughter to an ENT.

Sounds more like enlarged Adenoids..
Our daughter had Asthma and ear infections as an infant and toddler. They finally decided to place tubes in her ears and remove the adenoids. Made a huge difference and she slept so much better after wards.

Talk with your pedi about it next time you see them.

I second that, take your child to an ENT. My son was the same, a loud snoring baby and toddler. At four I finally took him in. The first thing the ENT told me is that children should not snore. He removed the tonsils and adnoids the next week. We have not hear a snore since. He is now 7yrs old and rarely gets sick anymore.

My brother and I both had this problem as kids. We used to call him Darth Vader because even when he was awake he sounded like he was snoring. I used to always get sinus and ear infections and we later found out that the bacteria was hiding in the folds of my tonsils because they were too big. Take your daughter to an ENT and really have her checked out. Our tonsils were removed (my brothers were the size of 2 AA grade eggs!!!) and neither of us have had problems since.

Definitely have an ENT evaluate the tonsils and adenoids (x-ray). Maybe one or both of these needs to be reomoved. If it were me, I'd get a couple opinions, but snoring is definitely a sign of something obstructing the airway a bit. Good luck.
