Sled for 3.5 Year Old

I'd like to get my 3.5 year old daughter a sled for Christmas -- nothing fancy, just something to get out on the local sledding hill and have a good time. Any recommendations on sleds that work well for her age? She is a thrill seeker, so I'd like something that's fast enough to satisfy her, but safe enough to satisfy me.

What can I do next?

depending on your daughters comfort level, I'd go with either the standard disk sled (easy to sit in and easy to get back up the hill) or one of the newer types of sleds that are flat, shaped a bit like a knee board (for water) and are almost styrofoam-like. They are actually stronger than that though... those are great because they pad your behind from the inevitable bumps on the hill, without being TOO bouncy, like an inflateable sled. I don't prefer those for little kids because they can really get launched off if they hit a bump and that's just too dangerous.

L.,

Those saucers are pretty fast. My kids like those. They are inexpensive and a 3-4 year old fits comfortably inside, but my 8 year old does, too. There are no pointed edges or handles that stick out, so if she takes a spill, she shouldn't hurt herself on the sled.

Hi L. - My family and I love the simple little plastic taboggans. (sp?) The ones that are just like we used when we were kids. They are simple, but they work well, and the string makes it easy to drag it back up the hill. They aren't very expensive either, if you can find them. They are big enough that my husband or I can sit behind a child, or they can always go by themselves. Have fun sledding, whichever route you go!

The Snow Boogie Boards are great - lightweight, fast, but no sharp edges, and they're soft and provide some cushion. She'll enjoy it on a smaller hill as well as larger ones.

A little round sled with a long rope attached to it. Because you'll be pulling her around. I've used this with several kids. Helps me go for a walk in the woods when I need to and I can drag them behind.
