Depends a bit on how hard core skiing. Park city in Utah is great and such easy airport access. Just not the hardest skiing.

Hi mom-
I don't know...
Perhaps I am cranky (the love of my life is being treated for a recurrence of cancer...and my daughter is having some congestive heart failure issues at the same time...and...as a sub teacher just now, the opportunity to sub teach is limited given the medical concerns of those I love)...
BUT...
Having skied ALL over the world...
I recommend somewhere with GOOD snow...
Good friends...
And a thankful accounting of blessings to even be in a position to ASK a question like this on this forum.
***I said I was cranky***
Best Luck

I've been skiing in Austria and Switzerland...and believe it or not...haven't had the pleasure of skiing in Aspen!!!
In these tough economic times...I'm glad to hear someone can do something like this!!!
I LOVED Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain!! Oh yeah...Wyoming - Jackson Hole - and there are some great places to stay at all of these locations!!!
Contact a travel agent and tell them how much money you are willing to spend and go from there!!!
ENJOY!!!
Personally, I love the skiing at Taos.
I live within reach of lots of fabulous skiing, and although I'm not much of a skier (well, okay, I do ski, but on water behind a boat) many of my friends are. Some of them actually moved out here for the snow. If you're an old school skier, the place to go around here is Alta, which may be one of the last places in the U.S. that reserves its resort for skiers only - no boarders allowed. I've also heard great things about Snowbird. I have a friend whose husband is an instructor at a different resort, but when they want to go play in the snow on deep, fresh powder, that's where they go. Plus, there is a spa there that is said to be fantastic, and nice restaurants. Brighton is more the laid-back locals' hangout - it's cheaper than the other resorts in the area and has good, accessible skiing and boarding. Lots of kids, teens, and college students on the mountain there, and lots of local families. The accommodations and food choices up there are more basic, but still nice. There are lots of little chalets and such available to rent. A little way down the canyon from Brighton is the Silver Fork Lodge, a rustic lodge which offers rooms, great food, a roaring fireplace, and lovely views of the mountains. Park City is lovely and expensive, with the skiing right in town. With Sundance getting ready to roll into town, it's going to be crazy later this month, though. All of these are less than an hour from the Salt Lake City airport.
Canada has fabulous ski resorts.
Whistler, BC
Panorama Ski Resort, BC
Kicking Horse (near Golden) BC
Lake Louise, AB is absolutely gorgeous, but little to do in the evenings, except the hotels
If you want old 1950's style, smaller, family friendly, with a free pass to one of the best and hottest hot springs after skiing all day, then consider Fairmont Ski Resort.
