Good Family Places to Ski?

We have been skiing twice but both times were in France with a great company that caters to families. We stayed in a chalet with other families, had our meals cooked for us (not lunch), had childcare for the kids which included taking them to ski lessons daily. I am looking for something similar now that we are back in the US. We live in Texas, willing to go to New Mexico, Colorado, maybe Canada. I want someplace that caters to kids, will have ski leesons for them (ages will be 5 and almost 8 or maybe 8 depending on when we go), and childcare so my husband can I can ski together without the kids too.

Any advice, tips, suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

I grew up in Colorado and there is a small ski resort called Ski Cooper (not Copper Mountain) that is perfect for a family because it doesn't get as busy as the bigger ski resorts. Plus, the runs are smaller so it is perfect for learners. Yet, for the experienced skier it is still has fun and challenging runs. There is a bed and breakfast in town that we usually stay at called Tudor Rose. I bet if you contacted them, they would be able to set you up with a good babysitter.
I have found that Monarch Ski resort is pretty good for children and learners.

Vail is large and has everything from easy to hard. However, it is expensive. Glenwood Springs, CO has a great beginner child slope. It is a small resort, but if you go to this link http://www.sunlightmtn.com/ski-swim-stay, it gives you deals and you can swim in the famous hot springs. (Feels fantastic after a day of skiing. Especially if it is snowing.)

Breckenridge or Steamboat CO. Both are small, family oriented ski towns with good skiing.

Colorado is GREAT! Telluride, Aspen...

Every State, has a "tourism" website... so do a Google Search on it.. and you can see all the different ski venues and hotels and 'family' activities.

I personally, love Colorado for skiing... and snow boarding.

Or just do a Google Search for "family friendly ski resorts in Colorado..."

all the best,
Susan

Well it looks like everyone has named places in Colorado. But I have a suggestion of Taos, New Mexico. As a kid my parents all skiied with their friends and we would be put in ski school. We have been to Steamboat Springs and that was great, but I would highly recommend Taos because of their ski school. This ski school is ranked high for having the best instructors plus you have a more one on one feel. The prices are also much better than any where in Colorado. I would recommend staying at the Edelweiss (sp). It is a great place that is right on the mountain. There are individual condos that you can rent depending on how many rooms you need. These are top of the line. Literally you can look at your window and see all the ski school kids. Perfect to watch your 5 yr old. Good luck on your decision. Have fun!

Try Steamboat Springs in Colorado or Aspen in Colorado.

I second Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We took our kids there for spring break when they were about the same age as your kids, and it was great! I believe we stayed at the Sheraton there. We were able to walk right out the back door to rent equipment, take lessons, etc. The kids had ski school in the mornings until after lunch. Didn't even need a car unless we wanted to drive into town, but there were plenty of places to eat & shop right there at the resort. They had a Starbucks, too, which I require in cold weather! I believe that during ski season you can fly directly in/out of Steamboat Springs from DFW. Vail is not too far away if you can't get flights into Steamboat.

Other options might be Beaver Creek or Vail. Best wishes for a great ski trip!

I like Copper Mountain because there is a beginner area that is pretty well removed from the other areas....

Oh - other good Colorado asnwers here too. Steamboat is a lovely town.

All the Colorado place listed below: Steamboat Springs, Vail, Breakenridge.
In Canada: Lake Louise/Banff in Alberta, Whistler in British Columbia.

You might find it best to go through a travel agent as I'm not familiar with having a cook incorporated into the deal, except at Sleeping Lady in Washington, where they served group meals and that is more for cross country skiing, but is one of my FAV's.
