Sippy Cups - Knoxville, TN

Have you tried Nuby cups? I started with those with my twins around 9 or 10 months and that seemed to be the easiest for them. The spout is soft, more like a bottle nipple so they seem to not be so adverse to it.

Try the Nubby brand. You can find them at Wal-Mart. My girls love them!

In the beginning take out the stoppers.

We took opur kids to the river and let them throw bottles in. Then if they asked for one, we reminded them that they were gone, in the river. This visual helped them and we never had any problems.-Could've just been good luck, but they were satisfied with the answer.
We also never used sippy cups at all. It really is the same thing as a bottle. We used real cups and they learned to use them and were proud. Also yu can try a straw, this is fun to teach!

My daughter is 10 months old, too, and she will not drink from one. A few weeks ago,I posted a request asking for any advice. It was suggested on here that I get the Nuby cup with the silicone top that is alot like a bottle nipple. I have tried every other sippy cup out there, and my cabinet is stocked with tons of different ones that my baby could care less about. Maybe the Nuby one will work for you, too.

According to my kids' doctor, it is better for your child to learn with out spill stopper in the cup.

give it to him first thing in the morning when he is the thirstiest...it only took my daughter a week and she didn't take a bottle anymore...
i gave her the nuby cups with the hard tops...the soft ones she just chewed on...

Hello! I have found that the "Nuby" sippy cups are the best. They are easy to drink from and are pretty much spill proof! They have them at WalMart for about $1.50 a piece and Hannah loves them. She started using one around 10 months as well. :)

What I did was I take the rubber spill proof thingy and cut a small slit in it. She got used to using it and sucking it. Then when she was ready I'd try her on ones that I didn't alter and she was fine. Good Luck!

My daughter was the same way. She is now 13 months old and still wont take a regular sippy cup we got her the sippy cups that have the straws in them and she does fine with it she really likes them.With the regular sippy it was like she couldnt figure out that she had to suck on it she wanted to chew on it and not suck but once you took the spill proof thing out she could drink out of it. The straws are soft and she doesnt have to turn it up and suck on it she likes the straws. Maybe he would do better with the straw cups.

It sounds like me just might not like it when he has to suck hard(as you udually do with the spill proof lids) try getting ones at walmart that you can change the flow of like theres the ones you can switch it to a slower flow and a faster one! so try that! my daughter loves them ans i didnt have a problem switching her to a sippy cup with those ones!!!

I am a huge fan of the " Nuby" cups as well,it was the only cup my daughter would take and we,too tried everything. They are cheap too so it's not so heartbreaking to lose one as to lose a $7.00 one with dancing elephants on it!

My child went straight from a bottle to the no-spill sippy cups with straws in them (just watch carbonated beverages). For some reason, he wouldn't "suck" on the normal ones. Then when he got it down pat, I'm with the rest of the moms. Both my sister and I agree that the Wal-Mart Nuby's are the best!

My 8 mth old, Sean, was born with a cleft lip & Palate. We are prepairing for his palate repair in June. A local speech instructor suggested that we use a dixie cup with about an ounce of milk at a time in it. Keep in mind this is when for training him to use a cup, as he won't be able to use a "normal" sippy cup after the surgery. We can control the dixie cup while assisting Sean at the same time. We have one side cut out in a small "U" shape and this is to allow us to actually view what he's getting in his mouth.
I know there is nothing wrong with your baby but I thought this homemade sippy cup idea was wonderful from the speech teacher. Sean needs to be 100% cup trained by the June surgery date.

Have you tried the Avent systems? That is what we used and all the pieces are interchangable. you can actually put a nipple tip into a sippy cup style cup and then change to a beginner sippy cup tip that doesn't have the spill proof thing and then to a spill proof soft tip and then finally to the hard spill proof tip.... this sounds really confusing but it is a great system (or at least was for my son)
