Every year around this time, My kids ( ages 8 & 5 ) have gotten sinus colds (or some kind of allergy cold) that last for weeks!! I have been to the doctors every year with both of them and nothing the doctor has given them has worked. ( singular, fibulator, etc.) Does anyone know anything that I could try for them? It would not be so bad, but every year my kids sound like a baby seal when they cough and it just breaks my heart to hear them like that for week after week. :o( And nothing to help them.

What can I do next?

I found a medication at Walmart called Suphedrine(behind the pharmacy counter.) It has really helped my 13 year old son with his sinus problems each year. I don't know if kids as young as yours should take this, but you could go talk to the pharmacist and see what he might recommend. I know how frustrating that can get. I hope you find something. P.

You know i understand most parents don't like the thought of surgery but....... my oldest daughter went to a ENT and they decided to take her tonsils and adnoids out. OMG did that ever help. She has not had a server cold like what u described in over a year. I couldn't believe it. I also know alot of people believe that body parts are there for a reason but sometimes it is a bad thing for the body. My youngest daughter i still have problems with. Every time the season changes she gets sent home from school because of sinus problems. First they think its pink eye then they think she can't breath. I am seriously tinking of taking her to the ENT to see what can be done. IT SUCKS!! GOOD luck and its just a suggestion.

I really don't know if this would work for sinus stuff, but it does for coughs. Have you heard anyone talk about putting vicks on the bottom of their feet before they go to bed. Put socks over the vicks and put them to bed. It really does work. Not sure why, but it does, and it sounds like it might be worth a try. Friday night my daughter woke up...I'm sure she had a fever, she was coughing, not feeling good. I put vicks on. She slept till 9am and was just fine. So anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

It sounds like croup. My 3 year old son gets it every year, I know what it is because of the seal like sound You mentioned. His doctor gives him steroids to open up his airway and then advised me to take him out in the cold air (bundled up)or put him in a steamy bathroom to help open airway and reduce coughing. One way to really tell if it is croup is if it gets worse at night. good luck! I hope this info helps.

My children our now 11 and 7 yrs old and when my daughter was in Kindergarten she had the same thing. The teachers were really annoyed that she could'nt stop coughing. First it was Croupe and that is a very barky cough. I took her to the doctors and it was croupe plus starting of asthma cough. Every fall and winter she would get this. They put her on singular that worked for her not my son. He would always get chronic ear infections and the post nasal drip didnt help him with his coughing. Hes on singular and zyrtec.

Be your own doctor also dont put every trust in the doctor, look on web md for more info to ask your doctor about your questions.

I hope this helps.

I brought my son in to the ER when he was 6 months old for the barking and this was the advice that they gave me... their airway is swollen, hence the barking, so they told me to try these things in this order 1. bundle them up and take them into the cold air to breathe for about 10 minutes. 2. If the air isn't cold enough, open the freezer and have them stand in front of that. 3. If the cold air doesn't work, run a hot shower, close the door and have them breathe in the hot steam. 4. If the coughing doesn't minimize at all, take them to ER for a steriod treatment which should last about 3 days, hopefully getting them past the coughing part of the virus and giving them the relief that they need. You can also put a humidifier in their room at night, which helps a lot. The way that the ER doc explained it to me is that it is just a virus, which 10 different kids can get, but it will effect 1-2 this way... which is so true. When I had to take my then-6 month old in, my older son had it earlier and he had the typical cold, but my younger son got this bark... It just effects each child differently, and they told me not to be surprised if my younger son gets it this way a lot (great!) It's such an awful son and so hard to wathc them suffer! You just have to wait for the virus to run its course and watch for them having difficulty breathing... the airway IS swollen and can get too swollen that it causes MAJOR problems. Good luck and I hope that they feel better soon!
