Police came into a school and arrested a 10 year old girl for misbehaving on a school trip. The girl and a few of her friends snuck into a community center's workroom, messed up papers, threw flour on the walls and walked out with a handful of lollipops. The girl was arrested, read her rights and charged with criminal mischief.
That was my brother and his friend 35 years ago .... They were arrested and charged and brought home in a police car. It made an impact. I suspect that's the case here too ... Impact. Her record will be expunged at 18 if she stays out of trouble. Hopefully, her parents are parenting and will help her see the error of her ways.
ETA -- dang it ... Did I get sucked in by the troll? School's back in session everywhere ... Didn't expect this.

Based on this information. .YES. Good for the cops for doing that. Now she will thing twice and be more accountable for her actions. I think if there was a litte more consequences for peoples own actions, there would be a lot less problems in this world.
Yes, she is 10 but she should know right from wrong.. and follow through.

Yup! I have an 11 year old and you'd better believe she'd be set straight, whether by the police or by me! But my daughter knows better.
No, go apologize and do your time, and be smarter than this.

She and her friends vandalized an office and stole lollipops. You can call it messing up papers, throwing flour around and walking out with lollipops but her age shouldn't change what she did.
When I was a freshman, just four years older, I did something similar. I wasn't arrested because that was what the school chose to do. I was kicked out and my parents paid for the damage to be cleaned up. It took me two years to earn my way out of that, lesson learned!

Why wouldn't she be?
Burglary
Disrupting the peace
Stealing
I count three crimes. She may go to a juvenile court, but the laws apply to everyone.

Yes she should be. Unfortunately in this day and age, kids are doing some crazy things, that they should not be doing. She needs to know she did wrong. You can't just go into some place and trash it and steal whatever you want. And 10 years old is pretty young to be that ballsy.

Such an interesting first question....do you have a link to back up your story?
Should she be arrested? Well, according to you - she already HAS been arrested. Did the other girls that were with her get arrested too or just her?
What she did was WRONG. She knew it was wrong. She destroyed an office and stole. Since when is that RIGHT? And why should we let her off? She's 10. She KNOWS the difference between right and wrong....or at least I would HOPE she does....

"Should" she be arrested? Probably not. That's as little harsh for a 10 year old.
But has she learned her lesson? Probably. If I were her parents, I would back up the police.
If this is a troll asking a question for a school paper, I don't mind helping out.

Kudos to the cops. I just found out my granddaughter who just entered high school is allowed to have her cell phone on all day and eat in the classroom whenever she wants. We wonder why the education system is the way it is.
Glad someone took a stance with this girl. I bet she was scared to death. I say good.. That's what she needed.

She should be arrested and charged with vandalism and theft.
Also, spammers and trolls should be arrested too.

Yes. She vandalized the place and stole. She also needs counseling to find out why at 10 she did such a thing. You can't just slap her hand or it'll get worse and worse. As her parent they should make sure the punishment in court fits the crime, which means they need to discuss it with the judge/prosecutor.

I think arresting her is a little extreme. If I was the adult I would make her and her friends write a letter of apology.
