Huh. There may be something to that. I'm 5'7, and you couldn't even tell I was pregnant until my last trimester. I just looked chubby. lol. My sister-in-law, however, is only 4'5... and she was HUGE almost right away. By the time she made it to term, she could barely stand up on her own.

I'm the one who made the comment you are referring to so I can say I definitely bumped out early and big. There just wasn't anywhere for the baby to go but out. I was huge with both my girls.

Well I am not short, but for whatever reason my first took up residence under my rib cage. So when I got the emergency room to check in the first question, what seems to be the problem. GRRRRR I am in labor!!

If it makes you feel better the other three showed just fine.

Im 5'2 and by the time I was 5 months most people thought I was close to my due date. Yes I looked and felt huge! All my boys were with in oz ( over or just under) 8lbs. With #2 I was so big with him I have pics of me a week before I delivered with my arm stretched straight out and touching the end of my belly! Im not sure how many people asked if I was carrying twins.

It didn't look like no basketball under my shirt or a watermelon... more like a hot air balloon :)

I detested tall people when I was pregnant. I'm 5 ft tall and popped WAY far out. I don't know how many people asked if I was having twins - I wasn't. It seems so unfair when you are that uncomfortable, but I really that baby only can go out. Good luck!

I am short (under 5'4") and due in early July. I am all belly - have gained nothing in my face, arms, some but not a lot in legs /hips area. Every single day someone says to me "You are due in July?? you look ready to go right now" or "are you sure you are not having twins??". It's extremely annoying. Everyone carries differently. I think shorter women do look bigger b/c there is less room (I have a short torso too). You did not say if the woman you saw having twins was tall or not but I assume she was. But keep in mind, smaller isn't better. It could (or could not) mean that the babies aren't growing as fast as they should or something else. Or simply it could just be the way the woman carries. Either way, ignore the idiots who feel compelled to comment. It's tacky.

I'm 5'7'' and showed very early. By 4-5mos you could definitely tell I was pregnant. I looked like a friggin' HOUSE by the time I delivered.

There are so many variables, each woman is different and each of her pregnancies are different too. Most show quicker w/ their 2nd, 3rd etc than with their first. 5 lbs on a a 5' woman looks heavier than on a 5' 5" woman. And everythign is open to interpretation...lots of people said how bid I was during my first pregnancies but those that didn't know me thought I was extremely small...they didn't realize that I was only 95 lbs before pregnancy and I was ALL baby...everywhere you touched you could feel my boy.

Yep, very normal. Most people looked at me with gaping mouths that I could stand up. I was enormous, but felt fine and gained an appropriate amount of weight. Different people carry differently, but being short definitely makes you more likely to pop out. My MIL told me at 6 months I looked like she did at term -- she was right.

I'm almost 5' tall with a short torso. Yes, I hit about 10 weeks along and needed maternity clothes. What a relief.

It was a bit harder toward the end of my pregnancy with my son, mainly because I thought he was kicking me in the throat.:) I didn't balloon out too much, but one woman commented often on how flat my belly was in front. It was strange, like a wall, almost, from below the breasts down to the pelvis. I just figured his back was forward and didn't worry about it too much. Easy birth, though.

I had my own ski slope. There just wasn't room for that 8lb baby anywhere but way out front, and though a friend and I both had babies the same size around the same time, she's taller so she looked much less pregnant. I was so far out and so short that I had to stand sideways in the pew at church anytime we stood. My maternity shirts started getting too short and showing my belly at the bottom. People told me later they were really feeling sorry for me. It's all kind of crazy, but just go with the flow. I would just shrug and say things like, "Where else is this kid going to go? I feel fine, though. Don't you worry about me."

I'm 5'4" and I am 34weeks. I have a long torso and short legs. I'm getting comments like "Wow, you look like your ready to pop", other people just seem to think I look like I am carrying a medicine ball in the front. Just embrace it, your carrying a baby. Try not to compare yourself to another pregnant woman.

Everyone carries differently, and some woman don't gain much but the weight is all over. I'm not sure why people feel the need to comment on how big a woman is EVER, let alone a pregnant woman.

I've gained 37lbs and I'm doing just fine. Can't wait to see my baby girl. Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy, congratulations!

ETA...I was showing at 8 weeks...I hid it under a large sweater for the next month until it was obvious :)

I'm 4'11" and very thin, but when I was pregnant I was giant. It was all belly, too. I showed extremely early, and I have permanent nerve damage near my upper rib cage. The doctor says it's from where my son's head was lodged so tightly (he was breach). There was just nowhere for him to go. My arms, legs, and hips stayed small; I was all baby, but was really enormous. A friend of mine said I looked like an apple on toothpicks.

I'm 5'4" and I showed pretty early. I was wearing maternity clothes before I wanted to tell my boss I was pregnant (12 weeks). I didn't get real big though, until all of a sudden in my 7th month I gained alot in size. I looked plenty big by the time she arrived, but only gained 27 lbs total.

My SD is in her 7th month right now. She's almost 6' tall and didn't show until really late. Now, she's got that "basketball" look. She thinks she's huge but she's not at all.

I'm similar to Bug. I'm 5'4" and wiegh 110. I gained about the same with both pregnancies (20 lbs, a little more with # 2). I didn't really need to wear maternity until about the 5th month. But once I started showing, I really got big in the front. And the closer I got, the more I felt like my stomach was resting under my chin. Turns out it was just my largely inflated boobs! :-)

I'm short, 5'0 and just gave birth 2 weeks ago. My stomach was big, but it wasn't as crazy huge as others I know. Every one carries, differently, I carried my first a lot bigger than I carried my 3rd.

Yep, I'm 5'4 with a short torso, and I ballooned out big time. It was no surprise though, since I also balloon out in a hurry when I put on weight.

I am also 5 feet tall and when I was pregnant with my second child (born March) I saw everyone around the holidays and was told I looked SO big. I still had several months to go! Why do people feel the need to make a comment like that, right? Anyway, I had a nice big healthy baby and you basically lose like 15 pounds at birth. I think it just looks different on those of us with no that much height. Its different for everyone-I also gained 40 pounds with my second-gulp-but starting weight was 107 pounds. Its all perspective. Good luck with the baby!

Guess it depends on the person and baby, but I was huge with each one even the ones I didn't gain as much weight with - and I'm short - almost 5' 2". My daughter is 5' 3" is the same way with her pregnancies. My mom was 5' 3" and she was small during all her pregnancies and had smaller babies too.

People would tell me how huge I was all the time and one guy use to tell me I was as big as a house. Didn't like hearing that. I would walk on the beach with my long flowly dress on and teenagers would yell out sounds and words about being a balloon and all. Mind you I had good size babies but really I looked much bigger because I was short. My girlfriend had an almost nine pound baby and she just look just as skinny as ever except it looked like she had a basket ball under her shirt. Another girlfriend never looked pregnant even in the ninth month. She just kept getting wider and would have a little pouch in the front. I stuck out in the front big time. So it just depends how you carry.

Congrats! Enjoy your moon time (as some call it) and blessings of health for you and sweet wee one

I am 5'4, and weight around 100 pounds. I didn't start showing until after 7 months. I woke up one day and I looked pregnant!! When I went to do blood work the day before my c-section, the nurse thought I was 5 months pregnant...and wanted to know what the heck I was going getting a c-section. I think it depends on your body. I am on the shorter side, but I am very long head to toe. I did end up gaining 34 pounds of all baby, and I never really looked very pregnant. He was up in my ribs almost the whole time, and that could have been why.
